Eyebrows - Regaine Extra Strength - help!

BrandNewShinyThings · 08/07/2020 15:45

A while back I posted about my disappearing eyebrows. Someone mentioned Regaine Extra Strength as a possible answer. I finally got round to ordering some and it arrived today. I got all excited but then realised I have ordered the For Men version, the instructions say it is designed for men only, do not use if you are a woman! Surely just a teeny bit on my face where I want my eyebrows to grow will be OK?? Its not like I'm putting it on my whole head!
Anyone have experience of this? Should I just send it back? It wasn't cheap! But I'm scared ShockGrin

The men's and women's formulation are identical, the instructions are just different (men have to use more, more often, and age ranges are different). Word of warning, I use it for my scalp and used to use up the last bits on my eyebrows and whilst there was some new growth I also started sprouting hair underneath my eyes and on cheeks, thick dark hair Shock Facial hair also increased (I had it all professionally Lasered off years ago) though that may be related to general use of minoxidil but around the eye area was definitely down to the eyebrows as that stopped when I stopped using it on my eyebrows. Don't expect too much from it though, I had a bit of regrowth on the tails but I didn't suddenly get the fuller unwieldy brows of my teenage years and I'm not super sparse to begin with. Used it for a couple of months on eyebrows, maybe 6?

Also, it only works so long as you use it, when you stop the hairs fall out (didn't happen in my case but that's purely anecdotal, the general consensus is that it's a lifelong commitment).

BrandNewShinyThings · 08/07/2020 16:14

botemp thanks for your reply. Oh my I definitely do not want a hairy faceShockShockShock Dammit I was hoping for an answer. Hate my eyebrows so much.

@BrandNewShinyThings, have you tried the eyelash serums? Things like revitalash? That's what I use, not sure they necessarily encourage new growth, the way Regaine does, but definitely helped with what was there, iyswim.

botemp · 08/07/2020 16:20

It was only a smattering of hairs as opposed to a full on hairy face but annoying enough for me to stop anyhow, it's a know common side effect. You could be lucky and not sprout hairs everywhere too.

Rapidbrow is meant to be really good for regrowing brows, why not try that instead?

BrandNewShinyThings · 08/07/2020 16:27

Thanks for both the suggestions DameCelia and botemp I will take a look.** I have no hair whatsoever on the skin nearest my nose, my eyebrows are basically sad little short thin stripsSad

Hi, I use rapidbrow, it's great. Have to keep using it but it's filled out bald patches I've had for years!

SephrinaX · 08/07/2020 16:34

You thought about microblading/ semi-perm makeup instead?

It was the best thing I ever did. Over plucked mine (thanks millenium fashion trends!) and they never properly returned!

roundturnandtwohalfhitches · 08/07/2020 16:36

I use uklash serum on eyebrows and eyelashes and it has made a big difference. They do an actual UKbrow which gets great reviews. I'd try something like that. A little tube lasts me 6 months.

BrandNewShinyThings · 08/07/2020 16:38

500BusStops oh that's good to know thanks! Its sitting in my Amazon basket waiting for me to make a decision. Sephrinax yes I have but I'm very scared that they will make me look awful. Also it is ££. It would be great if I could guarantee good results but it feels like a bit of a gamble. I'm a 45 yr old woman, I don't want sharpie browsGrin

roundturn I haven't heard of that, will have a google, thank you.
This is turning into a very helpful threadSmile

Microblading ; please don't! My BF had hers done and they look awful. They don't fade like they claim to and the individual "hairs" just bleed out and become a block of colour.
Having to colour in your own eyebrows is a small price to pay to not look like a complete fuck up every day and being able to do nothing about it.

BrandNewShinyThings · 08/07/2020 18:56

@YabbaDabbaHooooo see that is my worst nightmare. And there's no way of knowing until its done.

Yeah that was my fear as well. I did so much research before I got mine done as I've seen some really shitty ones!

@ginandtonicsonic

I agree that Rapid Brow works really well filled out my patchy brows
Do you think it would make hairs grow where there are none? Or does it just help where you already have hair?

Anybody tried castor oil?

BrandNewShinyThings · 08/07/2020 20:51

@Mawbags

Anybody tried castor oil?
I've seen a few YouTube videos with mixed results.

Yes I was wondering because I’ve been doing it for a week and am sure my eyebrows seem thicker but can’t work out if it’s my imagination
