I have shaved my head. Has anyone else done it?

Morning.
Last week I shaved my head. I had destroyed my hair with colouring and over styling and it was snapping off into a most fetching mullet.
I bought myself a gorgeous wig that no one has detected as a wig, it's so realistic, but as I've not been wearing it indoors I've gotten quite used to the buzz cut. As a result, I decided to bleach it with the intention of keeping it - my thinking being if I am buzzing it every fortnight or whatever it's going to be pretty healthy hair the 2mm or whatever it is that I have as it's constantly being trimmed off.
Now, I look odd to me when I put the wig on. Grin
Over the weekend I've been to big Tesco and out walking the dog sans le wig but now it's nearly school run time and I think I'm going to bottle and put the wig on.
It was very freeing and I am absolutely loving not having the faff of my very fine wispy hair to contend with. I have been having a lot of fun rocking striking makeup looks and have even managed to use eyeliner! Grin
Has anyone else done this and what reactions did you get etc?
Thanks

Also I'm 37 if that's relevant? 🤷🏼‍♀️

I haven't personally because I know that I just couldn't pull it off. I know a few who have though and they really suit it!

If you love it, go for it and fuck what anyone else thinks 😊

leafeater · 06/07/2020 08:24

I agree if you love it, keep it..... but if you ruined your hair with colour last time, stay away from the bleach...

ClashCityRocker · 06/07/2020 08:27

I think it can look awesome if you've got the right shaped head.

It's something I've always wanted to try but my head looks like a potato.

Sleepthief · 06/07/2020 08:36

Twice. Once at university and again when I had just turned 40. It never crossed my mind to hide it, but I don't tend to conform to expectations with my appearance anyway. It is indeed very liberating. One of my dear friends has just shaved her head at 44 and it looks incredible! She says she can't see herself ever going back...

ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 06/07/2020 08:37

Pleeaaaase can we have a photo!?

LadyPrigsbottom · 06/07/2020 09:15

I know a few women who have buzz cuts. One in particular, really looks fantastic with it. It is quite surprising, as I always thought it would only suit gamine, dainty women, but she is 5'9" and quite overweight, (as am I no judgement here)! She honestly looks gorgeous with her buzz cut! She has the face for it.

Would I do it..? Hmmmm I'd be tempted. But at the moment I'm growing my hair out as I got a lovely short cut before lockdown and now have the dreaded mullet - a curly/wavy one 😩! To prevent this look occuring in the future, I'm now aimng for a just above shoulder length, bluntish bob. Will take some time to grow out, but I'm hoping the maintenance after that will be better.

Bluntasduck · 06/07/2020 09:25

I shave my head all the time. I really don't understand why people make such a fuss about it.

PurpleThistles84 · 06/07/2020 09:26

I did it last year, also got a wig and loved it. Hair is getting long so may do it again soon.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 06/07/2020 10:21

I am loving it and to me I felt 'it's only hair' and I don't really understand all the fuss either. But I've had a few side eyes.
I love being able to put a ready made style on if I like and then be able to just take my hair off of I'm gardening or doing something similarly sweaty where hair is annoying (I get a really sweaty head and neck when I exercise or whatever)
It's also the first time I've managed to wear lip gloss without having to constantly pull hair out of it and never bother to reapply it after the first go Grin
I think my face is oval shape. I have a big forehead. My eyes are bang in the middle half way up/down which I can see now I have tiny hair

I don't know why I'm holding back on the school run. I think I'll do it this afternoon now I've got my face on. I don't really like being centre of attention (with a bleached buzz cut Hmm) and I'm not sure I'm ready for several people at once to come and talk about it all at once if that makes sense?

Also I am mindful I need to lose a couple of stone now I've done it which i wanted to do anyway. (I'm 2st overweight) I just don't think it would suit me if I put any more weight on so hopefully that will be the lock up the ass to lose the last 2

I would LOVE to do this! But I don't think I could pull it off, not with my face shape and not in my job, sadly. I say deffo go for it, wear it with pride! 👏

keepingbees · 06/07/2020 10:30

I'd love to have the guts to do this. I fancy having short hair and playing with striking make up. If I see a woman rocking the look I admire her.
So I say go for it! Once the first couple of school runs are done it will be nothing new and no one will bat an eyelid. I understand it's a big step to take though.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 06/07/2020 11:10

Out amongst strangers I feel fine and have run into a few people I know. It's more the people I know I'm more worried about as they will have all the questions and tell me what they think whereas strangers don't do that

I have! My DH did it for me, looks quite good and is so good to wash, dries immediately! Grin I am 50, bit plump.

I will not be going to a hairdressers until there is a vaccine so got so fed up of my hair being a mess, I had it done on a number 5

isittheholidaysyet · 06/07/2020 11:18

I did a number 3 at the beginning of lockdown.
Always wanted to but never dared.

I loved it, but the rest of the family weren't sure, so I have let it grow back.

If you like it go for it. Generally I think it looks great on most people.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 06/07/2020 20:15
