Dark waterproof rucksack for secondary?

DC has to have a dark, plain waterproof rucksack for school. Anyone know of anything that fits the bill and isn't either extremely ugly or hideously expensive? Needs to have space for a laptop, lunch etc.

My y7 has one from Decathlon, it is large enough for packed lunch, PE kit and lots of textbooks without being really oversized. It was very reasonably priced and I think there was a choice of 3 colours (he has navy blue) they do have quite a few sized for children. It's not completely waterproof but has an integral rain cover (although DS has refused to use this) however in all but the very heaviest rain it has kept things pretty dry.

Thanks Tim will check decathlon.

We use Jansport rucksacks. Waterproof and hold loads. Last forever. Simple design but very strong!

Thanks bugged that one doesn't say they are waterproof but a quick google shows some models are!

Hmm actually a lot of the Jan sport reviews say they aren't very waterproof although advertised as such. Did you find them to be, bugged?

I’ve been out in a shower and it rolls off, but not sure how good it would be in torrential rain to be honest. I was just impressed by how strong they’ve been and how much you can fit in them. Also they are deemed ‘cool’ apparently at my kids school!

Yes, the all important cool factor! Smile

I just bought mine the first one I saw from UnderArmour at a JD sports or whatever, they are black and you can fit a bigger laptop in them which is what we needed.

Kipling rucksacks are fairly waterproof, I have a navy one which I bought on offer at Amazon and have been out in rain with it and everything was dry. Some are very expensive though, though you can get good offers on them sometimes at Amazon, TK Maxx and other places

Rains (Danish brand) are entirely waterproof and scandi- minimalist.

Not sure if they would be year 7 cool - they are for sale in lots of hipster shops in the East End but that's a very different demographic.

I was going to say Rains

Make sure the laptop its own case too and screen protector.

Separate bag for P.E. kit as it probably won't be needed every day and also the used kit won't stink out the main bag!

I think the school is missing a trick there by stipulating dark colours only as they will all look the same and even more mix ups than usual will occur! Once term starts see if DS can make his bag easily identifiable in some way!
