Trying to get back to my natural root...

I currently have a balayage kind of style, lighter on the bottom and a darker root. Which was fine until I started to ask my hair dresser I wanted to go closer to my natural root colour for a more low maintenance balayage (imo the whole point to balayage?)

My natural hair is an ashy/mousy blonde and no matter what my hairdresser uses it always comes out a darker NOT ashy colour, definitely with more coppery golden tones. I have used the blue shampoos she recommends and it doesnt help.

Now with more root for her to look at since lockdown I am going to ask her one more time can she try and get it more ashy to my root colour.

Basically what I'm asking is this a difficult task or is my hairdresser just not listening?? I know colours are difficult and it's not an exact science as person to person colours work differently..

She's a friend of a friend and I'd say quite old school in her ways, I never had an issue with her until I started to specifically ask for a this!

Sorry that was very long 🥴
