What can I do with my hair? With pic

I'm 41 and have long hair down to the middle of my back. It hasn't been cut or coloured since February. I have a hair appointment in two weeks and I can't wait but I have no idea what to get done.

My hair is straight at the front and wavy and a bit frizzy at the back. It is naturally a lighter shade of mouse. I often go for blonde but do find it ends up yellowy after a while. Whilst it's not that thick there is a lot of it and it's far too heavy at the moment. I often just stick it in a high bun.

I feel i have a masculine shaped face with little definition. I'd like to feel more feminine. I am quite pale with blue eyes.

What should I get done and what colour should i go for?

Thanks

Why don’t you have a look at some hair ideas on the internet.

Then you can have a general idea of what to go for, plus which colour.

Ashy blonde lob?

You look nice with your hair up, I think shorter hair would suit you.

Mrstwiddle · 05/07/2020 05:31

Just from the outline, I wouldn’t say you had a masculine shaped face at all. Agree that a lob could look really good on you.

Cool toned brown lob with a long side fringe

Ellapaella · 05/07/2020 08:41

It looks lovely up - I'd be inclined to leave it longer so you can have lovely up-do's. A few woven highlights/low lights would look lovely.

I love all of these and I'd love something a bit quirky but I am very low maintenance and not sure I could pull it off.

I reckon all of those look like they would actually take quite a lot of effort to maintain everyday, unless you are one of those very lucky people who can roll out of bed with prefect messy waves.
The first one is my favourite- she looks just like Helena Christensen back in the day.

nanbread · 05/07/2020 09:39

I think the Carla Poletti one will suit you best and be the least work, although I'd go blonder.

Ask for an above shoulder blunt bob. I think a blunt, shorter cut will make your hair look healthier.

You could scrunch the back with some product to encourage the wave then wave the front sections messily using straighteners, or straighten the lot for a different look.

I'd go blonder than you already are, it suits you. Get a toner on it to take out the yellow, I also use bleach London silver shampoo and conditioner to take down brassy tones.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 05/07/2020 09:42

The colour looks nice as it is. The ends look dry and frizzy - presumably they've been coloured regularly, so I'd not bothered with a colour and have a few inches off to get rid of the damaged hair.

Happydaysforever123 · 05/07/2020 09:50

I think the colour is lovely, I'd leave it.
I love all three cuts you've chosen by if worry about maintaining them.

LisaxMarie · 05/07/2020 09:55

If you're finding you're blonde goes yellow, maybe invest in some Fanola shampoo on Amazon. It's a purple shampoo that gives amazing results even months after bleaching it lifts the blonde.

TornadoOfSouls · 05/07/2020 10:15

I agree with nanbread. Your hair looks very nice up too. Your face shape doesn’t look at all masculine to me.

Fatted · 05/07/2020 10:18

I think it's probably styling rather than cut they will get the best fro your hair. How do you usually style your hair? All of those pictures posted have obviously been styled, with the curls styled in, rather than being natural. It's not as easy as washing it and leaving it to dry!

I think something like a long bob with some long layers would be good. Then you can straighten it or scrunch it up and the layers will help the waves bounce up a bit.

I agree the colour looks a bit tired and I'd be inclined to go for something more like your natural colour at the roots. Perhaps you could get some highlights and lowlights done to just blend the colours right now?

Beatrixpotterspencil · 05/07/2020 11:35

I’d have a slight trim, and consult someone about colour.
I’m wondering, as a mousy blond ,self why your highlights go ‘yellowish’.
Mine don’t, I would actually try a different stylist????

Also, consider some treatment for the ends, and some deep conditioning. My hair is similar in texture to yours and the elasticiser works well for me and keeps the dry ends and splits reduced.

Personal opinion - I hate the new style bobs and lobs.
Especially with this GHD waves put in. It’s too generic at this point and literally fries the hair, especially after colouring.

Beatrixpotterspencil · 05/07/2020 11:38

And if you bob it without using GHD’s you’ll end up looking like one of the Bloomsbury Group, and whilst they were highly creative and intelligent, hairstyles were their weak point 😁

Fanola purple and blue shampoo is best by a country mile.

Look at Callum Heslop for inspiration.
