Hi All,

I posted a few times before about the hair loss issues and skin issues I’ve been having. Anyway long story short my gp put me on the pill dianette and within a few months my hair went from shedding over 100 hairs a day to around 30. Amazing. Plus my skin wasn’t nearly as oily anymore. I was soooooo happy as I’d been dealing with the hair loss for around 8 months and my hair to me had thinned so much! However 4 months into the dianette it started to trigger the rosacea I’m prone to and my skin started get spotty in my rosacea prone areas, I treated it with what I’d previously had success with (Soolantra) but it wasn’t really clearing it. Sooo off the dianette back to marvelon, skin better but losing so much hair again. It just really to ask your opinion as to what you’d do? My hair also continued shedding off the pill so I know it’s definitely hormonal hence why the dianette really makes a difference....... Sad

There’s another anti androgen tablet called spirolactone so you could discuss it with your dr.

It’s not indicated as an anti androgen, it’s a diuretic so they’d be prescribing off licence but it’s worth opening the discussion.

Thanks @Fluffycloudland77, I think that’s more one for a dermatologist isn’t it? x

Well I thought that too but I’ve seen people on here prescribed it by a dr. My dr wouldn’t prescribe it for acne so I had roaccutane instead which made me lose hair but it came back.

Endocrinology?

I buy organic spearmint tea off eBay, if I have a cup a day it stops the excess androgen symptoms of my pcos being as bad but there’s little hard scientific evidence on it, probably because there’s no profit in it for the pharmaceutical companies.

Post menopause, my usually thick hair was thinning in a couple of places. Since I’ve been taking Biotin it’s grown back. Might be worth a try for you.

Has your GP ruled out a scalp infection? I’m peri menopausal so put it down to that when my hair came out.
Turned out I had an infection that I was unaware of, I thought I just had dry scalp, and all the top layers of skin shedded and they contained the hair follicles so my hair was falling out in the shower, on the carpet (the Hoover didn’t cope well at all) Etc.

Then I got a scalp treatment and problem solved.

Nice guidelines on female hairloss. Losing 100 hairs a day isn’t unusual though. I lose loads of hair, I leave a trail behind me and regularly block the shower.

My hair blocked the plug hole in the bath. I don’t even use the bath.

@Elieza If you don’t mind me asking - how old are you? I’m just 40 and my mum keeps saying it could be that I’m in the peri menopause stage. Strangely enough when my hair started shedding my skin also became oilier. I’ve always had dry skin! No scalp infection though, thank you so much for your reply! x

@Fluffycloudland77 thank you so much for your reply, I’ll stay on the dianette for now but will keep the Spironolactone in mind. Especially if I don’t need to see an expensive dermatologist to try it! Will also try the tea you recommended xx
