My lovely red waterproof looks nice but melted in fear at the recent rain leaving my body dry but arms wet through. And it's only been worn 4 times 🤬
I'm doing a lot of dog waking for friend and need a new one. I'm toying with a just waterproof lightweight for summer and a new winter one. Saltwater? Didrikson? Ideas please. I'm 5'2 and plump and want it mid thigh minimum
Thank you!!

I have a Didrikson. They’re fantastic: warm in the winter but strangely not too hot on rainy summer days either. Mine is 9 years old & still as new. Perfect for dog walking as they have lots of pockets!

MrDarcysMa · 04/07/2020 11:45

Rains and Uniqlo !

emma6776 · 04/07/2020 12:27

Live in Edinburgh so good waterproof essential here. I have a collection now. These are the brands I’ve found are actually properly waterproof and not too old lady - Hunter, RAINS, Tretorn and Helly Hansen.

DiddlySquatty · 04/07/2020 12:32

Just checked out Rains -

What’s with the modelling style?! Such haunted looks!

The Rains ones are not really floating my boat. Which Didriksoms do you have?

Mine is the Siv parka

Mine is a north face and has done four years service (mostly dog walking) without issue. I fully expect the same again from it.

However it is a very practical look. You might prefer something a bit more stylish

I have one from Lighthouse. Use it for walking the dog in any weather and it's kept me dry every time. They are also quite reasonable. here

happyjack12 · 05/07/2020 07:44

WisestIsShe thanks for that rec. Just bought the Rathlin in the sale, there is £10 off new purchases, and it was £30 off in sale. :)

Goatsandreindeer · 05/07/2020 07:47

Would second the Lighthouse rec. Their coats are v waterproof and pretty hard wearing (I’ve had a winter one for years). Also a fraction of the price of many other similar brands which is a bonus Smile

PointeShoesandTutus · 05/07/2020 07:47

I have a saltwater one. I can’t remember the name of the style, but it’s longer than the most popular one, almost to my knees, and thinner. It’s been brilliant and survived many a playground in the rain, and a football match spectating hell. I’ve never been wet in it. Not warm though, it’s definitely a spring/summer coat.

Laska2Meryls · 05/07/2020 07:50

I just bought a Joules one reduced at JL

greytminds · 05/07/2020 07:54

I love my protected species coat. Stylish waterproof does exist! It was also a bargain and their customer service is amazing. They contacted me after I’d emailed asking about a specific coat a while back having found a last one in the size and colour I had been looking for.

morriseysquif · 05/07/2020 17:22

Reproof it with Nikwax, marvellous stuff

Polkadotpjs · 05/07/2020 18:01

Love those lighthouse ones - the price seems too good to be true!

Have you looked at Arcteryx? Their jackets aren't necessarily cheap, but they're very good quality and last forever. I have this one for dog walking...

I would say lighthouse is similar quality to Seasalt etc (if not better?) - I’ve had one of their winter coats for about 5 years and the only problem is holes in the pockets! Still fully waterproof and wind proof Smile

Laska2Meryls · 09/07/2020 18:43

I just received a Lighthouse one today having ordered it after hearing about them here. It is fab, and definitely comparable to Seasalt . It cost me £24.70 ( after the introductory sign up offer) !!!!
Thanks for the recommend! (Am sending the Joules one back!! )
