Philips lumea not really working

Bugaboom · 02/07/2020 19:29

I bought a Philips Lumea a couple of months ago. I've done the 5 intense treatments on my legs (using fortnightly) and I can't see much difference. I have fair skin and dark hair so should be ideal for this. Anyone else find this? Is it worth continuing with fortnightly even though I'm supposed to be on the monthly setting now? Really disappointed with it so far!

Oh that is a shame, mine has been patchy but I am carrying on trying, went through a phase of not really being on 2 weeks so sort of blamed myself. Bikini line has 1/2 worked, maybe 2/3 and that was the area I most wanted sorted, legs and underarms barely half way there, I have been at it since January.....

LlamaofDrama · 02/07/2020 20:39

I've got not a Lumea but a cheaper alternative. Also light skin and dark hair. I'm grimly ploughing on after 5 months, it's supposed to take 2, I think, of 3 treatments a week. It might be working a bit on my legs, but I really wanted it to sort my bikini line and I don't think it's having any effect. Can't write bring myself to give up though...

I saw patchiness and reduction from 4th use. I never became fully hair free. I persisted for 8 months. I have since stopped lasering for months now and it's nearly all back to normal. I don't think it's that great. It's the same or more effort as waxing because you have to keep shaving the area anyway and its time consuming lasering everything one every 2 weeks then a month.

Bugaboom · 03/07/2020 22:06

Thanks for the replies. It feels like such a waste of money at the moment. And I had such high hopes! I just wanted to be able to shave my legs less, wasn't expecting hair free but had read reviews of people saying they shaved a lot less often with it.

I have one. It's worked really well. If you're not seeing results I'd do it fortnightly

My underarms and bikini have seemingly stopped growing back. I’ve had it about 3 months. That hair was incredibly coarse. My leg hair is much finer and progress is far slower.
I read there’s no point doing it more than once a fortnight due to growth cycles. F&&@ doing it three times a week even if it is only 10 mins! Who can be arsed with that!

Popc0rn · 03/07/2020 23:49

Phillips do a 100 day money back guarantee (doesn't matter where you bought it from) which has been extended because of lockdown:

I've had mine about 3 years, my legs got the best initial results, and now I can probably go about 6 weeks without shaving them before I get stubble even if I forgot to top up. My armpits and bikini area were more stubborn and I think I carried on doing the fortnightly treatments for double the recommended time, but I'm not great at remembering to top it up and if I don't do it monthly they grow back to normal pretty quickly.

My friend has the same skin tone and hair colour as me and hers didn't work after ther first six treatments, so she got a refund.

Barryisland · 04/07/2020 00:07

Does it hurt if you use it on your face ie for a lady ‘tache?

Popc0rn · 04/07/2020 00:11

@Barryisland I've never used it on my face, but one of my friends has done her trash, chin and sideburns with it and said it's fine. She doesn't find it painful anywhere else though, whereas I find it can smart a bit on my armpits and lower down on my bikini area, especially if I've been using it for a while and it's hot. I'm a bit of a wimp though Blush

EdinaMonsoon · 04/07/2020 01:02

I would suggest to keep up with fortnightly treatment until you see a difference. I’m due my 5th treatment next Tuesday and today was the first time in 10 days that I needed to shave (the last round it was 7 days between treatment & shaving). That said, the hair on my legs is barely noticeable so I could have gone another few days without. I normally have pale skin & dark leg hair but have been naturally tanned since mid April & have still had good results. . My armpits & bikini line are more stubborn but definitely slower regrowth so I will continue with fortnightly treatment on those two areas until I see a significant difference.

LightenUpSummer · 04/07/2020 10:39

I did it fortnightly for months without a huge change but then I braved it and went up to maximum strength ‘zaps’ everywhere and have seen results now.

I never hurts, but ime unless it feels hot it’s not really working. I do maximum strength everywhere inc face with no ill effects (though I do have very insensitive skin)

Bugaboom · 04/07/2020 11:30

Thanks for all the replies. I'll keep up the fortnightly and otherwise I'll look into refund

MarcelineMissouri · 04/07/2020 11:36

Are you using it on maximum strength? I would definitely persevere for a bit longer. I think mine took maybe 4-5 months before I could really tell the difference. I’ve had it for 4 years now and it’s the best thing I ever bought. I haven’t used it now since about November last year (do need to charge it periodically to maintain the battery) and still have nearly no regrowth. I’m just about getting the point of thinking I need to do it again to get rid of a few odd hairs that have started appearing but it’s still next to nothing. And this is for someone who use me to have to shave every single day.

I know it doesn’t work for everyone but when it does work it is honestly life changing!

TrickyBiscuits · 04/07/2020 12:14

I had this problem but tried again using it weekly instead of fortnightly and it’s worked 🤷‍♀️ I’ve done 4 weeks now and my legs and underarm are completely smooth (my bikini line is still proving much more stubborn though!)

Bugaboom · 04/07/2020 15:30

Great! I'll keep going and yes I've used on the maximum strength. Fingers crossed I'll start to see some improvements soon

OP posts:
EdinaMonsoon · 05/07/2020 00:34

I think I usually set it to 3 or 4 & I always do legs first. Will try underarms & bikini line first next time & on a slightly higher setting.

BollyHobs · 05/07/2020 07:33

Honestly, keep going.

It took me a couple of years (sorry) of every month/six weeks/when I remembered. But suddenly you’ll realise what a massive difference it makes.

Lottapianos · 05/07/2020 07:38

It's very slow progress for me too OP. I used it religiously on the highest setting to start with, and have been using for about 3 years in total. The hair is lighter and thinner and I do have some bald patches but overall I'm disappointed

Baboutheocelot · 05/07/2020 07:40

I’ve been using mine for a few years. I find it works best on my legs if I use it a day or two after shaving. My legs are quite patchy now but I don’t think they will ever be hair free. My knees seem to be very resistant.
