I'm looking for a vaguely 1950s style cotton sundress, but without it becoming fancy dress-like, so no big petticoats etc.

Any ideas, please? :)

Joanie dresses are nice. They have a 40s/50s vibe, but are much more understated than the likes of Lindy Bop.

TU at Sainsbury’s often have some nice vintage-style dresses too (worth having a look on eBay). I quite like this yellow gingham sundress: tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Yellow-Gingham-Button-Through-Sundress/136807452-DarkYellow?searchTerm=:newArrivals&searchProduct=

I also have a couple of nice vintage-style Cath Kidston cotton sundresses bought from eBay.

Thanks - will have a look at Joanie. The Sainsbury's one is nice, but I'd prefer short sleeves in an ideal world.

Have you thought about proper vintage? Etsy have some lovely actual 50s sundresses. The quality is usually fantastic from that era.

In more modern stuff, I recommend Vivien of Holloway, particularly if you go in and out a lot.

MaxMara also have some beautiful things atm which might suit.

Thank you.

I love everything about the Very one apart from the colour.

Proper vintage no good, because I can't be bothered with the faff/finding the right size

I doubt I'll be able to afford MM but will look at those ideas now.

They have it in rust as well.

Thanks - will have another look.

In the meantime I've ordered a couple of very cheap ones in the Joe Browns sale. Never had anything from there before but 100% cotton and pretty prints.

Gorgeous in rust but the reviews say it's terrible for people with big boobs.

Try Dolly and Dotty... I got a lovely blue and white polka dot one for £15 Smile

collectif.co.uk is my go to for reasonably preproduction vintage clothes. they have some lovely dresses at the moment.

Nothing quite right on either of those, but thank you.
