Stopped drinking alcohol 40 days ago, instead drinking 2l-4l water. Hoping to improve skin plumpness etc and lose some weight
So far -nothing I look like death today, sallow skin, dark circles etc
Hair long and dry despite conditioning and masks
I’ve got good skin for my age (43) no wrinkles but just lack luster and tired eyes
Month ago i started taking starflower oil and brewers yeast
Take care of skin, masks, retinol. Cleanse and tone
Exercise wise, I’ve been running for a few years albeit slow whilst a couple of my friends started running in lockdown. They booze but already on fast paced 4/5miles so not sure why I don’t seem to improve or lose weight
I just look in mirror and see my mother staring back at me 😩
Just hoped that looks would improve abit

Everyone will tell you it’s meno, but I disagree.
I’m similar age and only bloated up since lockdown.
Skin ok, but even after reducing snacks and alcohol I’m still a few pounds more than before lockdown.

Stubborn!
But the memo excuse pisses me off to be honest. I usually know where I am with my weight and this is different. Perhaps everyone over 40 has just entered peri weight gain of a sudden.....

Give yourself a break. Vary the running, or join a running club when you can.

Progress is fast when you start running but if you do the same all the time, you don't notice any. Try shorter sprints etc or a more hilly terrain or something. At least you are running.

I look in the mirror and see an old witch looking back at me. I try not to look in the mirror.

From what I remember, I put on weight when I took up running, because I was putting on muscle. If you want to be more toned, try weights or spinning. It will probably make you faster.

@Beatrixpotterspencil I do think I’ve started peri meno but hope not as I’ve got no hope then 😂 I can see myself age before my eyes and feel too young for this( number wise as body is sluggish). In past I was told I loon younger than my age. Hasn’t happened in a long time

Oh and I always had good legs but stopped drinking and cellulite appeared and legs are veiny and lumpy
They look worse than before my health kick

You are born with your muscle fibres so some people's muscles are more fast twitch, so they maybe better at sprints. You can improve your running by mixing up your training.

Your skin, I wouldn't be putting all that stuff on it. Use a exfoliating face was once a day and an Spf moisturiser something light like simple. I don't use this in the summer as I only wear suncream, factor 50.

Weight loss, are you eating more now you aren't drinking? Calories in V calories out BUT not eating enough can mean you need to re boost your metabolism by eating different things ( ie not 10 donuts)

oohnicevase · 27/06/2020 15:13

I started drinking loads of water in lockdown as I was near the loo, my skin looks loads better, more plumped and youthful ..keep going!

MikeUniformMike · 27/06/2020 15:17

It happened to me @Beatrixpotterspencil, went to be aged a very youthful slim 39, woke up aged 40 looking 20 years older and 2 stones heavier. Wink

It has always been due to hormones hasn't it. Bad mood - PMT, blah blah blah. Then it's babies, then menopause, oh lets squeeze in about a decade of peri-menopause in there too. Maybe I have just been lucky but never really suffered from my hormones but I put that down to a good diet and lots of exercise.

Is it that bad to look like your mother? I'd rather look like my mum than like the ancient witch I look like.

Are you drinking more coffee. That's bad for cellulite.

Rub some fake tan on your legs and put your feet up with a G&T later and cut yourself some slack.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/06/2020 15:23

I think you’ve got to give it 3 months before you decide it hasn’t worked.

Have you been applying proper sunblock everyday for the last 20 years?.

MikeUniformMike · 27/06/2020 15:28

I didn't put on weight overnight or at all really.

I can remember when younger that everyone seemed to complain that the Pill made them put on weight, when in reality they were eating out a lot more.

Greentea93 · 27/06/2020 15:30

@Fluffycloud maybe I’m just too impatient. I will give it abit longer.
Always been good on the old spf, currently using 50
