Can someone recommend me a gel polish remover? I have done mine at home and would like to buy a tried and tested.

I use the Mylee one, I buy it on Amazon and would say it's really good. I soak a lint free wipe, place it on the nail, wrap it in kitchen foil and leave for 20 minutes. They come off fairly easily after that!

I use those clips that look like foxgloves from eBay instead of foil (I find foil tricky to maintain contact)
Also use Mylee 100% acetone

I bought the Magic Remover that you paint on as I was finding the acetone wraps took ages to break down the gel and the clips were annoying. You still have to buff the shine off first and its not as quick as the adverts claim but it works in about 15 mins whereas I was finding I still had to scrape quite a lot after having the acetone wraps on for an hour or more. I do layer a lot of coats of gel tho so maybe thats why!

An hour! How many coats is that for?
Mine take about 20 mins for three coats of colour plus base and taco. I usually do it in front of the telly to help pass the time.

Normally base, 3 to 4 of colour, then top. Even after an hour it doesn't just scrape straight off. My nails are very weak and thin (not because of the gel, they've always been like that) so I have to be really careful to get the polish off with as little scraping as possible. Maybe different brands of acetone are different then?? I assumed they would all be the same as its just a chemical?? I buy the cheap pure acetone from Home Bargains. Maybe it's that??

@dun1urkin taco. Is that you Cristine? 😉 Mylee gel remover is the best. For those that spend an hour scrapping gels off, gave you tried soaking your nails in a bowl of acetone rather than the foil wraps? That method works so much better for me and the gel comes off really quickly.

dun1urkin · 26/06/2020 14:00

@Nikeybikey just dropped that in there for the other fans Grin

Would also recommend Mylee but essentially any acetone remover soaked in cotton wool with foil wrapped over it for 20-30 minutes then eased off with an orange stick

Thanks all :).

My main tip is to have a long bath first. Gels hate water and it helps them come off a lot easier.
