Stockings - or rather, suspender belts.

Apologies if a post like this isn't allowed, after Googling my problem and being told Mumsnet can advise, then that is what I have done!

I am fed up of suspender belts 'self adjusting' and wonder if anybody here knows how to stop them doing so?
I can set the adjuster high on the strap so that my stocking tops are up on my thigh, but within 10 minutes or so, said adjuster has slipped all the way down the strap to the clip thereby lengthening the strap and my stocking tops are then mid leg - and almost to the knees in some instances!
Is there anything (such as a thin clip?) on the market that can be placed immediately underneath the adjuster to stop it from sliding down of its own accord????
Thanks in advance,
Izzy

Have you considered a nice pair of tights instead?

equuscaballus · 24/06/2020 19:59

Tights!

I’ve never worn a suspender belt, tbh didn’t realise you could still buy them. Are they not really uncomfortable?

DCIHoops · 24/06/2020 21:07

Do you have a ‘proper’ six strap belt OP? Makes all the difference. Mine is from What Katie did, very comfortable, no issues and the company are happy to discuss your requirements first before guiding you to make your choice.

Thanks all, No, no tights for me I'm afraid. I am strictly a stockings woman.
I have recently bought a 6 strap belt so I will have to try it out. My other problem is that I have recently gone from a size 12 to a 10 ( and am even starting to hit an 8), so, many of my suspender belts (and skirts etc) are now too big for me. Suspender belts that were great and never 'self adjusted' are now too big and end up down in the crotch area!!
I think I'll have to get a whole new wardrobe LOL.
Yes, suspender belts and stockings are readily available (thank you Ebay!). They are (to me) far more comfortable than tights - just not when I have the stated problems where the stockings slip down because of the adjusters. Bra strap adjusters don't move so why do suspender belt adjusters?????? It doesn't make sense!

I put a stitch under the moving straps on my sports bra as it does in fact move. I never need the size adjusted so that works perfectly.

Regular sticking wearer here, although l switch to tights in the coldest weather and go bare legged in the summer.

It sounds to me that the OP is wearing belts designed for the bedroom. For starters, avoid anything with a single hook fastening at the back, it digs in. 3 or 4 is ideal.

Try a good quality belt such as Fantasie, which should stop put as adjusted. Hopefully problem solved.

StarlightLady · 24/06/2020 22:17

PS: And yes, a good quality belt is very comfortable.

StarlightLady · 25/06/2020 16:56

The adjuster will “lock” on a good quality belt.

Stockings are what men think women should wear.

That why they aren’t working, the ones designed now are for sex appeal not practicality.

My dm had suspenders attached to her girdle when she was young and they were shorter straps attached to a girdle that didn’t budge because it was so tight. What my grandmother thought giving a size 6 woman a girdle was going to achieve is anyone’s guess. Probably part underwear, part chastity belt.

Everyone transitioned to tights as soon as they could afford to.

Megatron · 25/06/2020 20:11

It's perfectly fine for women to wear stockings if they want to. They may find them more comfortable - many women hate tights - and a good suspender belt really isn't uncomfortable (and really can't be compared to anything attached to a girdle). Or they may wear them because they find them sexy to wear. Either of those reasons is perfectly fine IMO.

XingMing · 25/06/2020 21:02

In my 20s, I loved stockings and always felt v sexy in them. At 60, they'd make me feel and look like Nora Batty.

MrsDrudge · 25/06/2020 22:40

Tried hold-up stockings? No suspender belt faffage needed.
