Two questions:
Looking for a short blazer (to break up a long body)
In a deep colour, but not black
That fits a petite

Second question - is there a current petite thread?
Why does 'petite' to some retailers = cutesy, flowery, sicky

I mean offences against sophistication like this

ASOS do a petite range too. I have trouble with petite sizing because it is hugely inconsistent. Some retailers just shorten legs/sleeves and some make the item smaller all over. It’s really confusing.

MrsRexVandeKamp · 23/06/2020 16:06

While I'm surrounded by my people (I'm 5.0), if anyone has seen any decent dungarees please let me know...?!

Sadly I don't have any extra suggestions to those made already, sorry OP.

popularinthe80s · 23/06/2020 18:23

I have found my people.
Poster earlier up who said they needed 4-6 sizes (daren't flick back as will lose my message) - I hear you. 4-18, then.
Thank you for Banana/JCrew/Whistles recs, will check out.
Musicmum - how long is the Whistles jacket? I really want something that ends above hip level...

That Whistles jacket ends at above hip level on me (5’4”), but it does have to go around a significant amount of boobage (28FF£). I have two and will buy a third when they do another winter colour.

musicmum75 · 23/06/2020 19:56

Yep that's the one. It's below the hip on me but not by too much. If you want one that's more waist length I can see that would be hard to find.

popularinthe80s · 23/06/2020 20:09

Thanks. I might try it anyway, I'll a bit desperate.

OP posts:
musicmum75 · 23/06/2020 20:33

Just double checked. It comes to about halfway down my bum at the back. But if you are a few inches taller it would obviously be a shorter fit.

healththrowawayx · 23/06/2020 21:31

Search online for cropped blazers, I’m sure you’ll find one that will look normal on you (but will be the shorter length you’re after)

healththrowawayx · 23/06/2020 21:33

This doesn’t look outrageously cropped

popularinthe80s · 24/06/2020 07:47

Musicmum, I'm slightly shorter than you, so I think it might be too long. But it looks lovely.
Healththrowawayx, I saw that, it's a good spot! But I want a deep colour that's not black (fussy, I know).
I'm looking at Hobbs at the moment (but my wardrobe ranges from Hobbs to New Look, I'm not shop-fussy).
Do we want to keep this thread going? Swap petite ideas?
Keep a broad church - petite could mean size 6 or size 22, just short?

OhRosalind · 24/06/2020 08:03

Oh I found my people! Off to check out the whistles blazer. Please keep the thread going!

Anyone have recommendations for the perfect petite t shirt? Something that isn’t too long and with a v or gentle scoop that isn’t so low it exposes my bra. And people recommending French brands, anything specific? I have successfully bought from Petit Bateau in the past, including a jersey blazer.

ASOS and Topshop petite have gems sometimes among the ditzy florals and micro minis. I am small generally, not just short, and find cheap or high-end brands generally better, mid-range usually swamp me even in the smallest size.

popularinthe80s · 24/06/2020 10:17

Me too, OhRosalind! Agree about Asos.
I have found xs in LaRedoute really good for t-shirts - not formally petite, but realistically petite?
Musicmum, does Whistles come up big, small or average?

OP posts:
MoltenLasagne · 24/06/2020 10:38

Jeetly and Jennifer Anne are both petite specific brands that have some great office wear options. May have some blazers that you like but can be a bit formal for every day and are a bit pricey.

I personally like trying to find Japanese brands but they can also tend towards being a bit twee at times. Asos has lots of petite stuff but I find the fabrics hit and miss.

dameofdilemma · 24/06/2020 11:10

I think it depends if you need something shorter in length/sleeves or smaller overall (eg in width across shoulders).

For the former a decent seamstress may be able to alter.

For the latter you could try a size 6 or XS Spanish brands (Zara and Mango) or H&M. I've managed to find small blazers in all of those (am 5ft).

popularinthe80s · 24/06/2020 11:45

H&M are pretty perfect on me - I just accept I have to pay to have the arms altered.

LuubyLuu · 24/06/2020 11:53

My best fitting blazers as a 5 foot 3 size 8 are often from the European brands. Particularly Massimo Dutti and Zara. Also try Reiss and Phase 8.

Karcheer · 24/06/2020 12:55

Hello! Im 5ft I would love there to be a petite thread!

Currently im enjoying that the freakily tall people (anyone over 5ft4) like cropped trousers, this means for the first time in my life i don't have to get trousers altered :)

healththrowawayx · 24/06/2020 13:36

I feel like Zara are loving the boxy/oversized blazer trend so their blazers are currently extra oversized for petite customers atm. Don’t get me wrong, I love a boxy oversized blazer outside of work to wear with trainers/dr martens etc but definitely need something more tailored for work.

popularinthe80s · 24/06/2020 15:33

karcheer, welcome!
healththrowaway, yes for work, you need something sharper.
Reiss - thank you - gorgeous - but out of my price range:-(

OP posts:
DJTanner · 24/06/2020 15:37

At 5ft 4 I'm technically too tall for petite clothing but I'm a small build and a size 6 so I do buy some petite items. ASOS has a really good range, and also Boohoo is good too.

musicmum75 · 24/06/2020 19:04

@popularinthe80s I'd say Whistles sizing is pretty average. I don't buy much from there as it's all too big for me one way or another but because the jersey blazer isn't tailored it's ok. The sleeves are a bit long but otherwise it's fine.

popularinthe80s · 25/06/2020 07:47

Thanks, @musicmum

OP posts:
OhRosalind · 25/06/2020 13:07

Has anyone petite tried Sezane’s shirts or t-shirts? Wondering if the fact it’s a French brand means it will be small enough (I’d take the smallest size I think).

popularinthe80s · 26/06/2020 08:29

OhR - good idea. Their website is dreamy. Prices are out of my league at the moment - but they say that their sale starts Dimanche...
