Are handbags ageing?

I have quite a few decent quality handbags, I usually grab a large tote to work, so I can carry everything, but after not using them for a few weeks because of lockdown I look at them and see them like a thing of the past. I am 50 yo. Should I switch to backpacks??

Backpacks are better for your back...

Something to bear in mind at my age too Grin

God I hope not- I loathe a back pack, love a large handbag. It’s easier to reach into the side to pull out anything I need at one time, taking a bag on and off my back sounds like a right hassle to me. Plus I’d feel 13

This one's pretty...

I use both I feel more glamorous with a handbag but I do tend to use a backpack for work or days out. I have the one you posted in navy it’s a great size for work and quite chic as far as backpacks go whilst still being comfy and light to wear. I’ve also used it for a weekend away before although that was with very minimal packing!

Backpacks don't need to look studenty. The Orla Kiely ones are lovely and Roka come in nice colours.

Handbags? By which you mean top handle day bags? Why would it be aging? It's like saying heels are aging!! Use your bags and don't give it a second thought :)

I think backpacks are quite juvenile actually - I only wear them for hiking.

It depends on your work dress code. Its very hard to make a backpack work with anything other than casual clothes.

I assume you mean are they out of fashion? I'm not really a bag person so I don't keep up but those large totes are just as vulnerable to dating as other trend led item, so it wouldn't surprise me. And take it from me that they can also cause excruciating shoulder and back pain - now that really is aging.

I had to switch to a cross body messenger style bag - which I like but I have to be careful not to overfill it - or a backpack or even a bumbag. I've come to really enjoy how all those options leave me with both hands free and, even if my shoulder righted itself, I don't think I would ever go back now.
