I'd merrily been wearing them all winter with long tops and today I looked in the mirror and...........

Please advise. No abuse please but feel free to be brutally honest.

Also, you look fine to me op.

I don’t think skinnies are flattering on anyone to be fair, although I appreciate that’s not a mainstream opinion!

dontdressme · 21/06/2020 11:52

Not that I need to keep chiming in but I do really appreciate all these comments. While I'm probably way too harsh on myself, I do agree that I could do better than these jeans. They're not flattering, and that doesn't have to mean that I'm hideous. I can have a bit of a tummy in middle age and after two children, and that's OK. It would be ok at 16 too. The jeans are currently in the wash and will be heading to the charity shop to be unflattering on someone else.

I'll be doing some jeans research to see what will suit me better and that I'll feel good in.

Oh and you'll be pleased to know that I cleaned the mirror this morning so this thread has motivated me on two fronts Grin

I would like to know this too Chaaaaaching as they are still widely available and worn!

I saw so many people wearing them and looking, IMHO, absolutely dreadful in the Primark queues on the news this week. I would like some of their body confidence because that's what it all comes down to really! But I'll be ditching this pair.

Why are you sending them to the charity shop? There’s absolutely nothing wrong with them. Just because a couple of people here say skinnies are not in fashion doesn’t actually make it so. Every single person I know still wears them and they’re in every single shop so I’d probably trust ASOS and John Lewis rather than a couple of anonymous people on a forum.

Nickname21 · 21/06/2020 12:02

They look fine to me also I didn't know photo bucket was still going. That's a blast from the past.

Mascotte · 21/06/2020 12:04

Look great to me!

If you read the whole thread, several people said that they felt I could do better and find something more flattering. Without only listening to what I 'wanted' to hear (many people said that I looked just fine), I felt that there was probably something in that. Even if they were the height of fashion, I think that they're probably not that flattering (on almost anyone) and I could do better. So I hopefully will.

I only have about 3 pairs of jeans and I live in them, I wear a pair almost every day, so I guess it's worth investing in something I feel great in.

also I didn't know photo bucket was still going

I know! I chose it deliberately so I could take the photos down rather than have people I know recognise me here in perpetuity. I think I'll do that now. Thanks everyone for the responses. I didn't come here looking for an ego boost but I got a teeny one if I'm honest Flowers. Here's to a more realistic body image.

I'm paraphrasing a lot, because I can't remember who wrote it so can't look it up - but I read something a little while ago that I liked.

They said that if an item of clothing doesn't fit or suit you, it's the item of clothing's fault. Your body is doing everything it's supposed to. It's the clothing that has failed your body, not the other way round.

So if you don't like the jeans, throw them away. But it's not your tummy's fault. Your tummy is doing just fine. It's the stupid jeans designed and made by companies who want us to feel like crap to go and give them more and more money.

Apileofballyhoo · 21/06/2020 12:40

Is it the way the seam slopes towards the back rather than going straight up, OP? I think they're fine, they look fine on you, but the seam would annoy me. I'd wear them with a long top too, to cover it.

You've got a lovely figure.

SouthWestmom · 21/06/2020 22:18

Op I am a similar shape and have found that all saints jeans are a fantastic fit. Sometimes wait for the sales as they are expensive but they are the only skinnies that work on me. Not a clue why.

SouthWestmom · 21/06/2020 22:18

Oh actually Jamie jeans from Top Shop too.
That's it.

Tinyandpetite · 21/06/2020 22:21

You look lovely, nothing wrong with them x

MoreSchnitzelPlease · 22/06/2020 00:50

One or two people have commented that perhaps the jeans are not as flattering as they could be, but you've had a lot more comments saying how nice they look! Why are you focusing on the slightly negative comments? I think the jeans look lovely on you, I can't see what the problem is. Finding something flattering/unflattering is very subjective. Skinny jeans are still extremely popular, and they are not out of style at all. I am confused by your reaction to the comments you have received, as they have been overwhelmingly positive, but you have decided to send the jeans to the charity shop anyway.

marriednotdead · 22/06/2020 10:56

I’m a similar shape to you and still wear skinnies despite being a bit older and with nowhere near as great a bum!
I find that higher waist styles sit better along with tops that end just below the jeans pockets so that the eye isn’t drawn to my tummy.

It just links to a blank black screen, no pic.
