Birkenstocks...help with sizing please!

I’ve been looking at getting some Birkenstock’s but not sure what size to get. Do they normally come up quite big? I’m a size U.K. 6 and my feet aren’t wide, but nor are they narrow! Do I get my usual size or go down? TIA!

I read the size guide on the Birkenstock website and it told me I needed to size down. I'm usually a 37/38. I ordered the 37 (Madrid big buckle style) and they were huge, like clown shoes. So I sent them back and got a 36, which is perfect (with plenty of room all around my foot).

There was something in the size guide which said they've changed their sizing in the last year - they are bigger now apparently.

I didn't need to wear them in, they are perfect in every way.

@paradyning

They don't come up big. There is supposed to be a gap all the way around your foot on the footbed. Don't size down. It really boils my piss when people do this. I am so over invested in this.
Mine are meant to be a size 5.

I laid them next to a pair of M&S size 6.5 sandals and they are identical.

If your piss is boiled what do you think mine's like? I've worn them now and it's too late to take them back.

I have sized down for regular Arizona's, but have some narrow fit ones and needed my regular size in those.
It annoys me that a lot of nice colours only come in narrow fit, my regular ones are far more comfortable

paradyning · 21/06/2020 09:33

Piss not boiling deisel unless you tell me your toes are clawing over the top.
I would say M&S sizes are slightly larger than Birkenstock.
As although both are 5=38 on their charts, in my sizing 8=41 for Birkies and 7.5=41 for M&S.

Birkenstocks are not fashion shoes, they are orthopaedic shoes. They are supposed to be roomy front and back to allow the foot to move and breath correctly. They are not supposed to fit snugly or be exactly the length of your foot. It doesn't boil my piss, far from it, but I do agree with that PP that it does look odd when I see toes or heels over the ends of the footbed. That's why there is a lip all the way round the footbed, to keep your foot well inside.

BUT - there is room and room - if you're foot is swimming or you can feel the sandal moving on your foot when walking, then they're probably too big.

AnyFucker · 21/06/2020 09:52

They are perfect sizing for me

I wrar a consistent size 6 in everything else and 39 in Birkies

My toes aren't clawing over the top because they're too big. I went down a size and they're still too big.

I haven't worn them outside yet but I know from walking on hard floors they're going to fall off me. Plus they're making a farting noise. Blush

I had some that farted but it stopped over time Grin
My problem is I need to order them online, not able to try a full range on and see. I'd like to try toe post ones for example but worried about comfort. I know I can order more and send back but it's still harder than slipping shoes on and off in a shoe shop. Even in normal circumstances I can only think of as Schuh that sell them in store.

SunbathingDragon · 21/06/2020 12:26

I’m a size 5.5 but always find size 5 for flip flops is the right size for me and it’s the same with Birkenstock.

SuckingDieselFella · 21/06/2020 12:32

@Thanosatemthamster
Do you have an independent shoe shop near you?

Do a search on the Birkenstock site to find one that stocks them.

John Lewis do them and they're re-opening soon.

paradyning · 21/06/2020 13:23

Farting Birkies! Oh no!
If it helps I am boiling my own piss presently as I am wearing them with socks! ShockAnd to add further insult to myself – with Christmas socks!

I find Bells shoes have a good selection. bellsshoes.co.uk/collections/birkenstock
Worth a look OP.

I did have a dubious quality paid 2 years ago and by the time I realised something was wrong it was too late to return though. The leather had been sewed on skewed about 1/2 cm offset in each shoe so they don't fit properly.

@paradyning

You have the same ones as me! Do you find that the metallic bits get scratched? I've already got scratches from adjusting the buckles.

paradyning · 21/06/2020 16:26

Good luck OP!
No they don't get scratched.

SuckingDieselFella · 21/06/2020 17:06

Yay!

I was baking yesterday and got some dough on the cork bit. It's right at the top of the foot above my big toe. Will the stain come out do you think?

paradyning · 01/07/2020 15:48

OP did you get your birkies?

SuckingDieselFella · 01/07/2020 17:47

Mine are still farting after two weeks of wear.
