First time poster, please be nice Smile Lockdown has given me time to have a long hard look at my life (and in the mirror) and TBH, I'm in need of a bit of help!

I've never really paid much attention to my skin or make up - I was pretty insecure about my looks in my 20's and reacted by just ignoring it all. But age really does bring confidence, and I'd like to sort myself out finally - I'd really love to lean into this newfound feeling that I'm worth it.

Current situation - typical white British complexion, with combination skin I think - nose a bit oily, and I'm prone to very dry skin on cheeks and forehead which I've previously just used vaseline moisturiser for Blush A few moles/freckles, and the occasional little spot. Just started wearing sunscreen a few weeks ago! I have some brown sun spots around my eyes which I'd very much like to minimise if possible. I smoked for years, but quit when lockdown hit, which has done wonders for getting me to start feeling more positive about my health etc.

I'd really love to learn a bit more about skincare, but the internet is overwhelming in its recommendations, and I can't tell what's actually scientifically backed, vs snake oil! I've got that retinol is good, but don't know what % I should be looking for? Glycolic acid also comes up a lot, and I bought the nip+fab serum on a whim, but not sure if it's doing anything for me or not.

I feel like I'm playing catch up, and it's a bit embarrassing, but I have the time and will power to try and get it sorted... So, basically, any suggestions would be gratefully received!
