Long Tall Sally End Of An Era

I thought it was coming when they started closing their stores, and now it's official. Long Tall Sally is closing later this year.

I did feel they had somewhat lost their way in recent years with much of their range looking rather frumpy and lots of polyester fabrics.

I started shopping with them 35 years ago. Where am I going to be able to buy perfect fit jeans, in a 36" leg which have a high enough rise to be comfortable. Coats, tops and jumpers with long enough arms, and tailored for the taller body?

All other brands of jeans (and not many do 36" inside leg) have such a low rise that they don't go over my hips at all. And, at 54 I'm too old to be showing my arse and muffin top to the world.

I have used companies recommended by The Tall Collective, but many of those are abroad, and I'd rather support a UK company.

Hi since hearing the news that Long Tall Sally are closing for good in August, I have joined forces with other tall women to lobby major retailers. We are asking them to be more inclusive and to cater for tall women both on the high street and online. We hope that together, we can provide evidence to retailers in the UK and overseas that there is a viable market out there.
We’ve created a survey and asked as many tall women worldwide to complete it. This will gather basic information that we believe retailers would be interested in.

Here is the survey please complete it and share it among any tall friends or family. www.surveymonkey.com/r/NHYFDS6 and a link to the FB page please spread the word, in the hope to get as many people on board in our quest to have access to clothes and shoes that fit.

I am only 5"7.5 (with long legs) but the survey starts at 5" 10 I don't want to screw the results so will I just leave it? Or would you like me to do it and fill out the other box?
Splattherat · 25/07/2020 22:32

Please could like the FB page and I will ask for you. What inside leg are you?

Ginkypig · 25/07/2020 23:45

Sorry not on Facebook.

33 inside leg.

MrsBennetsnerves · 26/07/2020 01:39

Size 9 is 43, not size 10 so now I don't know what shoe size to pick.

crazymscurls · 26/07/2020 07:06

It's a shame that they are closing but I'm not surprised.

I was always super excited to go and try everything on in the shop and although it was all long enough it was a struggle to find items that looked current, at the same time they didn't seem classic either.

During the last couple of years it did seem as though they were starting to add many more interesting items to their collections but it might have been too little too late - it's disappointing as I really believe there is a market for good quality tall clothing for women.

My husband is 6ft6 and has so many options, lots of them are more expensive but he looks and feels great in the clothes he buys. It's so frustrating that I can go shopping and not manage to find a single thing that fits well.

Splattherat · 26/07/2020 09:51

MrsBennetsnerves their is a discrepancy with shoe sizes and retailers the survey was created based on the majority and personal experience. Go for what shoe size you usually buy.
Yes my husband is 6’ 4’ he can shop at High and Mighty and Jacamo. But as a woman you can either be tall or plus sized but not both. If your young and slim you have much more options with retailers more retailers catering for you and you can also wear mini skirts/dresses/shorts etc.

Tallandall · 14/08/2020 07:50

OP I would try both the facebook groups suggested. Not cheap but Levi always used to do 36’ inside leg but a few styles so you may have to try a few styles on to find the one you like best.
Also Dorothy Perkins, Asos Tall, Next Tall or Very might work for you.

@Splattherat great idea! I have filled in the survey
I agree with everything, I live in skirts, leggings and the same jeans I've had for 15 years. I can't find anything to fit and I'm not even massively tall!
As a side note Im gutted at the current fashionable trouser length just above the ankle. I thought it would make it easy to look on trend..... But they make me look like a gangly teenager 😆
