Bra and knickers - how many are needed for a "capsule" wardrobe?

I am going to treat myself to new bras and knickers - mine are an absolute state. So...how many bras and knickers (and what colours) do we think are "needed" for a decent wardrobe?

I was much more particular about bras and pants matching in my younger days!

SundayReilly · 16/06/2020 22:39

2 black bras
2 nude bras
2 white bras
6 pairs black everyday pants
4 pairs nude everyday pants
6 pairs white
2 sports bras
2 thermal vests
Couple of strapless
And erm.........
32 sets of good underwear - matching bras and posh pants
Think you could cut it a bit for capsule !

@fatimashortbread - Although not totally redundant, the knickers have become something of an optional extra here during home working Grin!

fatimashortbread · 17/06/2020 07:52

Pants being redundant depend on whether I am behind on the washing Grin

ElinoristhenewEnid · 17/06/2020 08:05

9 bras - 3 each of pastel white and black. Each bra has 3 pairs of 'matching' knickers - all used in strict rotation - wear a bra for 3 days before washing - so enough for 27 days.

Also 1 strapless bra for special occasions

StarlightLady · 17/06/2020 08:21

After l’ve worn a bra it goes straight in the wash. Same applies for tops, knickers, socks, tights/stockings.

oceany · 17/06/2020 10:28

What's the consensus on matching underwear? All mine is ratty and needs replaced having been through 2 pregnancies and back. Is matching like clothes and considered a bit naff? Should I be aiming for some kind of arty coordinating not matching effect? Does it even matter if no one's going to see it?Grin

KatharinaRosalie · 17/06/2020 10:52

i can't wear matching sets as all bras that I like only come with scratchy stiff lace knickers with frills and bows all over. I only like microfibre laser cut no VPL underwear, preferably sports underwear that is more airy. Might match the colours if I can be arsed.

NekoShiro · 17/06/2020 10:57

Can't help you on the bra front, I've just got a couple bralets for work but I'd say 7 pairs of panties would probably be best for a capsule wardrobe, figure out what works best for you, personally I wear all black so the colour of my underwear doesn't matter, just the cut, obviously have a couple of comfy pairs for periods unless you don't have them then dw :) hope you have fun creating your capsule wardrobe

Michelleoftheresistance · 17/06/2020 11:02

I love people this organised - I have this lovely fantasy about a life where I'd wear matching bra and pants every day and be as sorted as they are Grin

I have several bras in varying degree of poshness and in reality wear the same two comfy ones in rotation almost all the time, so I suppose a capsule wardobe exists, just with lots of unnecessary storage of barely used bits.

Fgs be careful buying M&S pants not sold in a sealed packet.

StarlightLady · 17/06/2020 11:07

@KatharinarRosalie - Not all lace is stiff, yiu can get soft stretch lace.

@oceany - I try to match or at least co-ordinate. It’s part of the getting dressed feel good factor.

KatharinaRosalie · 17/06/2020 11:10

Starlight probably, but my priority are bras, and the brands and models that I like do not do knickers according to my taste. Not sure why they couldn't add a soft seamless option to all the frilly thongs.

TheDogsMother · 17/06/2020 11:23

I'm probably not the best person to ask as I have c 40 sets. This includes sports, black, white, nude but mainly pretty sets. Like you @NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace it must always, always match.Grin

Sunshineandflipflops · 17/06/2020 11:31

I don't own any white underwear as they just seem to go grey after a few washes and if I wear a lighter top I prefer a nude bra.

I have more bras then I wear as I have some that I thought looked nice/felt nice in the changing rooms then discovered were either uncomfortable and/or didn't fit properly.

So bras that I wear regularly - probably 3 black, a nude and a dark blue. I get my bras from Bravissimo mostly and they aren't cheap so I don't tend to have that many at a time but I do at least one wash a day so not a problem.

My knicker drawer is just full of black M&S multipack knickers with the odd thong for those outfits I just can't get away with anything else.

Sunshineandflipflops · 17/06/2020 11:32

Oh yes, I have more sports bras than normal bras as I run!
