Bra and knickers - how many are needed for a "capsule" wardrobe?

I am going to treat myself to new bras and knickers - mine are an absolute state. So...how many bras and knickers (and what colours) do we think are "needed" for a decent wardrobe?

1 black bra
1 nude bra
1 sports bra
(1 Strapless if that's your thing)
A couple of sexy ones for special occasions with matching bottoms

2 weeks worth of underwear. Always good to have some nude ones for lighter clothing

8 fancy bras, each with 2 pairs knickers 2 sets of suspenders and one v sexy all in one number, i recently lost a lot of weight and feel sexy in underwear again though so I went a bit mad. 😀

4 everday bras and a dozen pairs of knickers.

Why do several people consider a white bra as a must? I don't own a single one, and I have dozens of bras. Nude - sure, if you want to wear light or sheer clothing, but white shows from under anything. Am I missing something, why do I need a white bra?

I would rather concentrate on shapes than colours. So moulded t-shirt bra, balconnet, plunge, strapless, possibly multiway but strapless of course does the same job. A more comfy lounging bra.

Thank you TheWindowDonkey and grey12, an entirely functional and practical underwear collection does not take into account the desire to look attractive and sometimes sexy in it. Even in a capsule collection there needs to be a little bit of frippery. I have no white underwear, it all goes grey in a couple of months and I don't wear white clothes as they don't suit me. I would only get a nude coloured bra if I needed it for a specific outfit, they look a bit medical even if they style is nice.

I wear white clothes but if the aim is not to show your bra then you need to wear skin coloured bra under those white clothes, not white.

I’m a small back/big cup combo which are pricey and hard to find. If I was a more regular size that I could pick up in supermarket for a tenner I’d have loads.

Seven bras (one weekly wash)
Fourteen knickers (so they’re used half as much, last longer)

Oh I also have seven sports bras as I put one on in the evening to relax

I don't have any white or nude. I always match bra and knickers, and I just can't get on board with white pants which remind me of primary school, and nude makes me think of creepy shop mannequins. (I know this is just me!) I don't tend to wear white clothes anyway.

I only buy nude coloured bras and pants - they go with everything.

@KatharinaRosalie I agree about white underwear - can’t stand it. I do have some nice but I prefer black and barely ever wear the nude stuff. Considering throwing it out. I don’t have a single item of clothing that shows my black underwear through. Even white jeans it’s not visible through S they’re too thick.

Jeez. I've just looked at my underwear drawer and think I may have a problem!

3 T shirt bras: x2 nude x1 black. With 3 pairs of knickers each.
8 Plunge/cleavage bras: x2 nude x4 black x1 pretty pink x1 pretty bright purple each with at least two pairs of matching knickers.
4 Balcony: x2 black x1 lime green x1 leopard, all with two pairs of matching knickers.
1 Strapless: x1 nude and two pairs of matching knickers.
5 sports bras as I exercise quite a lot.
1 padded cleavage boost bra for some evening outfits, the rest are all unpadded as I already have a big bust!
2 "fancy" satin and lace sets for special occasions, one in dark plum, one black.
One sexy bodysuit type thing.
And about 5 or six bralette type things for wearing around the house and to sleep in.

I was actually thinking of buying another set on payday!
I'm a 32FF/G so if I find a nice bra in my size I buy it as they are not super easy to come by. Brastop is great for Curvy Kate bras in my size.

Knickers - comfy ones and enough for 2 weeks away

Mostly it depends what you're wearing over the bra of course

i think nude, black and white are staples and all mine are these colours. I have a navy one of i'm feeling bold.

oh knickers i have in the above colours white, nude and black about 10 pairs of each but some at the bottom dont get used because im washing all the time

I can 'capsule' anything but .... not my lingerie: can't be done.

I have maybe 60 matching sets from the cheap and cheerful to the outrageously expensive.

I have 21 pairs of knickers. Mainly coloured but a few nude for while linen trousers and 4 bras. All colourful. Don't own any black or white underwear, when I was young it's the only choices I had in massive bra sizes so now I embrace the pretty.

I deliberately get colourful bras with nice straps. Anything that shows then contrasts or compliments what I'm wearing. I worry much less about straps showing or a v neck being too deep now my bras are nice in their own right!
Not peep show lace, mind, bold colours and fabrics!

I don’t have any white or so called nude at all either. ‘Reminds me of school. I like my world to be full of colour.

I’ve got two white and two black bras. 8 pairs of black knickers. That seems to do me fine!

I don't like the look of a white bra under white clothes. It stands out too much. I wear a salmon colored or beige one because that is closer to my skin color so less noticable l.

I can’t really comment as I have probably got around 40 or so and have to colour match my outfits if poss so just buy whenever I see a colour I need.... and yes I am a freak

14 pairs of pants and 4 bras (bras totally redundant atm as I am working from home!

I have 7 x nude bras, 2 black (one is strapless/multi-way and to be frank not very comfy), maybe 20 pairs of pants, mostly black but also a few nude/beige in case I want to wear white on my rear end in summer, and a couple of pairs of mauve and of grey. The vast majority are black.
