Going from dark brown to light brown at home

I need some advice please! I'd like to dye my own hair from dark brown to light brown/caramel colour. I'll attach some pics of what I mean. All the same tone, not fussed about highlights. But I'm worried it will turn ginger. How can I prevent this from happening so I can achieve the colour I want and still end up with natural looking hair colour? Thanks! Grin

To avoid the ginger thing you need to choose a colour without red undertones.... so a lighter ash brown might work. I think you would need to go for a permanent colour rather than semi permanent if you are looking to lighten the base colour. As the boxes are cheapish compared to a salon treatment why not buy a few and do strand tests on the underneath of your hair to see which colour you prefer? I've been enjoying doing my own hair during lock down and I've saved a fortune.

Thank you @Babymamamama, I've only just seen this! Confused is there a specific box dye brand you would recommend or does it not really matter?

I'm not sure if you're thinking of permanent but if so I've been using Schwarzkopf poly colour tint and really like it. I do suggest you do a strand test on the underneath of your hair to check you like the colour first off. You could try a semi permanent with less risk but I find they are good for darkening but not so much for lightening from your base colour.

You won’t get lighter without bleach. Putting a perm light brown hair colour over dark won’t do anything.

Thanks all! If I do have to use bleach I think I might stay away as I can't bare the damage. I might just have to stay dark brunette until I'm ready or can go to a hairdresser Grin
