Hey, I lasted well leaving my hair alone during lockdown but caved this week.

Can anyone please help/advise on hair, would I need to bleach up the darker more orange parts of my hair before I put toner on or could I get away with just toner without looking completely stupid 😑.

I can’t actually see what is wrong with it by that picture?!

namechaangedd · 11/06/2020 09:23

I was going to add that in comments, it looks better in picture than face to face. I will try a different picture.

It looks fine from the picture.
I did similar I usually have blonde highlights anyway dyed it myself and it looked orange on the roots . My family said it looked fine and I didn't want to risk it by messing further.
I used a silver shampoo to tone it down looks better but not perfect .
I wouldn't dye it again try a shampoo to tone the colour.
Can you message your hairdresser for advice ?

namechaangedd · 11/06/2020 09:28

My ends were blondish, I put the dye on ends and up to my roots, I then put on roots but washed it off too early I think. I’m not hugely fussed with my roots, just that middle part?

Toner will help* and so will a good purple shampoo if you don’t want to risk bleach again.
By help I mean tone down the colour rather than blend. I don’t think it looks too bad by the way

zaffa · 11/06/2020 11:29

This has happened to me Op and whilst purple shampoo has helped by ends are now practically white (the colour I wanted) but the roots and the middle section are still quite brassy. The colour doesn't match in or blend at all. I don't know the solution- I'm scared to put more dye on in case I damage my hair too much so I'm hoping the hairdressers will open and can fix it for me .... if not I just don't know what my next steps will be

namechaangedd · 11/06/2020 12:39

@zaffa I might try bleaching again but just the roots/middle then put a toner on. Failing that, I’ll no doubt throw a dark dye on it. My hairdresser is my friend and I’m nervous to text her 😂🙈

Toner will take some of the warmth out OP but won't lift colour.

If you're after an ice blonde you will need to rebleach your roots to lift the colour, nothing else will do this. In the situation where you already had light ends and dark roots I'd have applied the bleach to the roots first or used foils to get an even colour in the mid section.

What did you use and what end result were you after? Box dyes are awful for meaningful lightening, I'd always use a proper developer bleach applied with foils and follow with a proper toner, not a colour from a box dye kit as these often contain more ammonia and will not alter the tone of the hair. If your hair hasn't lifted enough sticking colour on top just won't work.

If you've got a pal who's a hairdresser I'd use her! We all make mistakes, plus it's lockdown!

I’m not 100% sure what I’m aiming for, was just looking to go back light as my colour was going an odd colour. I used Garnier bleach, I am waiting on Wella T18 arriving, I might order some bleach and try bleach roots and middle section and foil then tone it. I’d be happy if my full head was either middle shade or bottom as long as it was blended.

I will message her tomorrow night, hopefully she’s had a wine and in a good mood 😂

Ps - I’m not wanting to lighting it anymore, just try blend the two colours.

Sorry if I haven’t been clear in my posts.

Try a no orange shampoo. like the purple ones but these target brassy orange or gold tones. osmo do a good one you can pick up from amazon or at sallys. might put you on till you get to a hairdresser

Cotswoldmama · 12/06/2020 18:24

Go on Facebook and search Brad Mondo. You might get some tips and if not you’ll waste a couple of hours watching the hilarious hair fail videos where he describes where people go wrong with home hair colouring and cuts! I’m slightly addicted but watching the videos is helping me to resist doing anything to my own hair!

Blondiney · 12/06/2020 22:43

You need Fanola no orange shampoo. Saturate it onto DRY hair, comb through to spread evenly and leave on for 20 mins or so. Amazon sell it.

namechaangedd · 13/06/2020 07:25

Haha @Cotswoldmama I have been watching him, you would think that would have put me off this.

I ended up bleaching up again, it’s very light, I’m waiting on some toner to arrive or I might order demi permanent colour 🤦‍♀️.

I WILL NEVER DYE MY HAIR AGAIN!!

Cotswoldmama · 13/06/2020 07:28

My hair is very dark brown. I once diy ombred it! It took about 3 packs of bleach and was still orange, I ended up using a darker blonde box dye and that fixed it.

Purpleandteal · 13/06/2020 07:29

If you bleached again you need a protein treatment ASAP.

namechaangedd · 13/06/2020 07:35

I bleached the roots and middle part again, left the ends. My hair is surprisingly not wrecked. I slept with it’s a 10 miracle hair mask on and shower cap, rinsed it off this morning and put in a bun.

I will probs do this every 2nd night until toner arrives or until I grow a backbone to message my hairdresser 🤦‍♀️

Update!!

So I put toner on and it’s toned the yellow/orange down. My husbands a bit Shock as I was brown haired last weekend Smile.

I’ll leave the rest to my hairdresser from now on.
