Talk to me about strapless bras...

Springle67 · 10/06/2020 06:43

Bit of a strange one this, but I want something strapless that flattens rather than enhances my rather pathetic boobs.
The majority of my summer wardrobe requires one, and alot of it is sort of smocky/empire line. So the normal straplees bras that sort of "push up" just look ridiculous and spoil the line of my clothes. Sort of a bra like boob tube or something?
I'm size 8 and just want to look in proportion iyswim.
I'm 34B (I did Boob or Bust once and it came out something like 29 FFFFFF which obviously isn't exactly easy to find)
Thankyou :-)

I have never got on with a strapless bra. If lsaac Newton had been a woman, he would have understood.

Instead I go for pretty colourful contrasting straps, which look as if they are nade to show. I avoid white and so called “nude”, l don’t own either. “Nude” makes me look as if l have cardboard boobs!

Also suggest you avoid the clear plastic straps that twinkle and sparkle in the sun. Invisible? Don’t think so!

What about these.

Stupid question, but if you have small boobs, do you need a bra?

I have had big boobs, no boobs and everything in between and have never found a strapless bra that works.

They all seem to create strange lumps and bumps so I now just go without if a regular bra doesn't work.

Springle67 · 10/06/2020 07:56

Hmm-they look interesting Imtoooldforallthis- thankyou!...will they give any support at all though I'm wondering?
Not a stupid question at all PrimeraVez. But yes! These spaniel's ears cannot be allowed to swing.
I think I will investigate the contrasting strap idea too StarlightLady...it would be a great alternative.

I'm a 36f and they give me enough support in something close fitting, so I'm sure they would be fine for you.

AtLastEarwax · 10/06/2020 10:07

I wear a strapless daily - Ann summers do the best bras

MrsA2017 · 10/06/2020 11:26

Boob tape!

EdinaMonsoon · 10/06/2020 18:06

Wacoal make a strapless bra which does exactly this OP. I am a 32C and I don't like pushed up look either with my summer clothes.

Here it is I find them really comfy and absolutely stay in place.

Anniecott · 10/06/2020 18:48

Next do really good strapless bras that are under wired and minimise, sorry don't know how to add the link. I wear them under the type of dress your talking about look on the website. X

Scootergrrrl · 10/06/2020 18:56

In an emergency situation when I, as a bridesmaid, inadvertently sent my strapless bra to the venue with my overnight bag, I found a tip to use the top bit of a pair of tights as a kind of bandeau bra. Worked brilliantly!

Cheeeeislifenow · 10/06/2020 19:02

They are pointless for me.

Springle67 · 10/06/2020 20:34

Thankyou everyone!
I’ll order the Wacoal one EdinaMonsoon and have a good look at Next Anniecott.
And that’s a cracking tip Scootergrrrl 😂

Notfor big boobed girls.

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 10/06/2020 20:40

Matalan do a stretchy bandeau one that's fab with summer dresses. About £3!

Coconut2010 · 10/06/2020 22:17

I wear plain strapless bras most of the time as I work in a male dominated environment and cannot take the risk of showing off straps etc It’s now become a habit so I also wear them outside the office. I used to buy them from wonderbra and M&S but they would end up falling off over time. I discovered Victoria’s Secret and the quality is much better, they bring much more support than other brands I have tried.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 14/06/2020 18:33

As you’ve identified, you’re not a 34B if you’re a size 8.

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 14/06/2020 21:29

Just came to echo @TestingTestingWonTooFree, you are definitely, 100% not a 34b if you are a size 8. I am a size 12 and am a 32e. You're more likely a 32c or even 30d. Different brands also come up smaller or larger so order a few different ones. Strapless will fall down if the back is too big!

Dizzywizz · 15/06/2020 07:12

Sorry if I’m being dim @Coconut2010 but why can’t your bra straps show as you’re in a male dominated environment? I’m guessing it’s not to do with professionalism as that wouldn’t need to be a male dominated issue - can the men not cope with seeing bra straps?!

Coconut2010 · 15/06/2020 07:24

@Dizzywizz
It has obviously more to do with professionalism (and the very strict dress code in a traditional “industry”), but unfortunately there is also a male issue, whether we like it or not.

unicornparty · 15/06/2020 07:28

I'd be very very surprised if you were a 34 b at size 8!

Ginfordinner · 15/06/2020 07:36

What type of clothes do you wear to work that show your bra straps @Coconut2010? Aren't you allowed to wear anything with sleeves?

Coconut2010 · 15/06/2020 08:22

@Ginfordinner
I can dress whichever way I want as long as it looks professional and doesn’t break the dress code policy.
However most of the clothes I wear for work as either: dresses with a more or less open neckline (which can sometimes show the straps depending on movement), tight tops or turtle neck jumpers (which will show the straps under the top as they are quite close to the body) or V neck silky blouses which again can show straps depending on movement. With strapless bra I don’t think about it and it’s become a habit anyway. I have them in skin type of colour (for white or coloured tops) or black to go under black tops.
