I am planning to buy some products from the Ordinary. Has anyone tried it and liked particular products?

I am old with massive pores but no spots.

DD is young but with redness from acne when she was younger.

There's is a starter kit, it's got the squalene cleanser, the hylauranic acid and the daily moisturizer.
I wouldn't recommend the aha blood peel. It's really harsh.

candycandycat · 09/06/2020 21:05

Hi, I'm a fan of the Ordinary. I use their 1% retinol - they suggest you start with a lower concentration and gradually build up so your skin gets used to it.

I love the Buffet serum and I use this with their Resveratrol 3% and Ferulic Acid 3%.

I use other products on my skin too so it's hard to tell if it's the Ordinary or a combination of products but my skin looks and feels so much better than it did 5 years ago Smile

You need to look up a regime for your skin type.
It’s the only skincare products that have ever visibly improved my skin.

Stripesgalore · 09/06/2020 21:09

What are the benefits of the Ferulic acid?

The daily moisturiser has hylauronic acid in it. Does it make a huge difference to use that as well as the hylauronic acid?

Sorry for all the questions, but I currently have about ten things in my basket, so am trying to make sensible choices!

Highly recommend the niacinamide with zinc, and the squalene cleanser, and the natural moisturising factors. Also their foundation serum is fabulous.

candycandycat · 09/06/2020 21:13

The Resveratrol 3% and Ferulic Acid 3% are antioxidants so help protect your skin from pollutants, sun damage etc.

Loveacuppa · 09/06/2020 21:15

Azelaic acid is also great, but I prefer the Gardens of Wisdom (GoW) one from Victoria Health to the Ordinary one.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 09/06/2020 21:53

@Loveacuppa would you mind telling me what it is you prefer about the GoW version please? Smile

Loveacuppa · 09/06/2020 22:03

I just prefer the consistency and the way it feels on my skin.

I do love a good serum though - I have a big collection - mostly GoW and The Ordinary - love having a variety to get me through the week!

LochJessMonster · 09/06/2020 22:13

It’s animal friendly which I like.
I’ve been using the Caffeine Solution to try and reduce my puffy under eyes, not sure if it’s made a difference yet but fingers crossed.

parentofteen · 09/06/2020 22:14

If you message them with photos they will send you a regimen for your skin. They're busy at the moment so takes a while.

Make sure to introduce products gradually rather than all at once. So use one product for two weeks, then if no breakouts or adverse reactions then introduce the next one, and so on.

Here's my example regimen for aging, acne prone skin with some red scarring.

I am 50 with dry skin but open pores on my nose and I use:

Morning
Caffeine Solution for eye bags/shadows
Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (vitamin C serum)
Matrixyl 10 + HA

Evening
Caffeine Solution
Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane OR Lactic Acid 10% + HA (alternate nights)
Matrixyl 10 + HA

I use their Marula oil instead of moisturiser. Good results on my middle-aged skin. Not greasy.

Stripesgalore · 10/06/2020 00:15

Parent, that looks quite similar to what I was thinking of getting. I will send them a message

@Loveacuppa thank you, I'll give it a go.

JMAngel1 · 10/06/2020 08:12

I think you need to address your concerns - I have open pores and am 48 - the following regime has been amazing - transformed my skin

Argeriline serum - literally botox in a bottle!
Marine hyaluronic serum
L ascorbic acid powder and reservatrol and ferrulic serum mixed into my spf
A moisturiser over the top to seal it all in - doesn't really matter what as long as it's not too greasy

Pm
argeriline serum
marine hyaluronics
a retinol product - I use an ointment based one not from the ordinary but the ordinary do good ones - only every 3rd night and build up
a thick night cream to seal it in

These really help to resurface/plump my skin and make it glow.
Once or twice a week, I use TO lactic acid 10% to exfoliate.

The Ordinary now means I don't have to wear foundation.

I didn't like buffet (too many actives - hone in on what your skin really needs instead) and niacinamide breaks me out.

Loveacuppa · 10/06/2020 09:47

This is a great Vitamin C serum too
www.victoriahealth.com/product/C-Deep-Vitamin-C-Serum/13534

(I found GoW after Nigella raved about their Prickly Pear oil - so now my bathroom drawer is chocca with GoW and The Ordinary)

If you can find one to match your skin tone, do try The Ordinary Foundation too - the serum one is super-light
