Hair loss when brushing...

Just after a bit of advice, I’ve had some hair loss recently that could be related to my under active thyroid or maybe hormonal..
I want to know what’s a normal amount of hair to lose each day, at the moment I wash it every other day and lose about 30-40 hairs on the days I wash and about 10 hairs the days I don’t wash.
Is it also normal to lose hairs when brushing? If anyone could let me know their normal that would be great! I just know what’s normal for me anymore! Thank you! xx

Normal

Completely normal but if that's an increase on your usual daily amount, I can see why you might worry. Have you thought about a good supplement? I love NutriHair.

Ive always lost a lot when washing and brushing, so much so i bought the shark antihair wrap vaccum not for my dogs hair, for mine. I have hypothyroidism too and found my hair easily breaks, when i wasnt on levo i couldnt do anything to help it. Now i take hair vitamins as well as lots of mask treatments and leave in sprays and its much better.

I lost hair when my when my iron levels were low. Maybe take a supplement for a few months and get your thyroid tested when you can. Also B vitamins can help.

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously thank you, I already take iron tablets so my iron levels are good,y thyroid levels are also okay now. Can I ask do you lose any hair day to day?

www.healthline.com/health/how-much-hair-loss-is-normal

50 -100 per day is normal

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 07/06/2020 16:31

No, it's all completely fine now. It turned out I was anaemic and the Dr gave me prescription iron tablets. I now just keep the levels topped up with the ones you can buy and also take vitamin B. My hair went from feeling very thin to back to normal within months.

I do lose a normal amount when brushing but not very much at all by comparison.

Sarahlouiseis33 · 07/06/2020 16:58

Thank you @MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously the trouble is I’m not sure what is a normal amount to lose when I’m brushing it! x

Iodine’s meant to help hair but not sea kelp.

The ordinary do a hair serum which reviews say reduces hair loss day to day.

I lose loads, most of my vacuum cleaner bag is my hair. It blocked our bath and I don’t use the bath I use the shower.

I don’t think it’s helpful to state how much hair anyone loses on a day to day basis as it’s normal to shed up to 100 strands daily. If you’re going through a normal growth cycle you won’t really notice an overall loss to the density of your hair however.

If you’re noticing bald patches or general thinning then your growth cycle may be disrupted.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 07/06/2020 17:26

For me, normal is a few strands in the brush or in the shower. But I agree that if it feels thin when it never used to, that's more indicative of a problem.

I lose loads everyday (I would think more than a 100 a day) and I'm always being moaned at about my hairs around the house, but I have quite thick hair with a lot of fine individual hairs that when I used to have it permed or highlighted took ages to do.
