Navy and black - how to avoid looking like I got dressed in the dark

I love this combination. However, how do I make it look like a deliberate choice?
I'm toying with the idea of buying a necklace with black in it, to wear with a navy top/black bottom combination - to give it a sense of purpose
(How lucky I am, to have the kind of life that I have space in my head to think about this)

What style of top do you have in mind? I think a black Peter Pan collar style necklace would probably tie it together nicely if a plain-ish top.

I often wear eg black leggings with a navy Breton T-shirt. I think navy & black can look smart together.
