Fila trainers - fashionable or not?

Does anyone know if Fila trainers are generally considered a ‘cool’ brand?
I remember them being considered a bit naff a few years ago compared to the likes of Nike and Adidas.
But now they seem to be making a comeback?

They were big in the early 90s (or at least we’re in my London primary school 😂). Perhaps it’s part of the 90s being back in fashion?

Yes of between the age of 11 and 17.

No if you are an adult!

LadyFuschia · 05/06/2020 08:50

if between...

Dd is 17 and wouldn’t be seen dead in them. But I suppose it depends what groups someone is in- maybe they’re cool for other teens?! Dd and her friends wear Doc Martens, Converse, Vans, and at a push Nike or Reebok classics.

Iloveacurry · 05/06/2020 08:52

A couple of my DD’s friends have them - they’re 12. Personally I think they’re horrible. I wouldn’t buy them for my DD.

MysweetAudrina · 05/06/2020 09:06

My dd12 calls them Nokia blockias.

If teens won't be seen dead in Fila, I'm all for adults wearing them!

Suzie6789 · 05/06/2020 17:54

My 11 yo thinks they are fabulous, therefore I would avoid them.

worldsworststepfordwife · 05/06/2020 18:19

They were a thing for the youth a couple of summers ago they only lasted about 6 months

Craftycorvid · 05/06/2020 18:26

I had a pair briefly a year or so back. Found them very shiny and very tight in the toes. Since I’m all about comfort, they had to go. No idea about the fashion tho’ as I tend not to give a stuff in most cases.

Bioprepper · 05/06/2020 18:42

My 13 year old wanted some so bad, we looked everywhere for some in the colour she wanted for her massive feet. We found some eventually, she wore them about 3 or 4 times and now wouldn't be seen dead in them. Waste of money :(

big in the 90s, came back a couple of summers ago. Over again now.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 06/06/2020 00:33

The disruptors had a resurgence a couple of years ago - but I never hear about Fila now.

Fila and champion have become trendy brands again. Both were not cool brands when I was at school in the 90’s.

I do think it depends on the area and groups what is considered a cool brand by teens and young people. Round here it’s the usual suspects- Nike and Adidas are top dog. Vans, dr martens, Fila etc are ok but not as cool. Kickers for school shoes are a big no which is in contrast to when I was at school as they were the shoes.

I think once most people get past high school age they stop caring so much about what’s considered cool and just buy what they like. I personally don’t like the filas because I’m not a fan of white trainers. I like a good chunky trainer shoe but would go for buffalos over the filas any day. I think the chunky shoe trend is on its way out again.
