Funeral dress for MIL - help!

My lovely MIL has just lost her mother & I'm trying to take some of the burdens off her shoulders by helping her find something appropriate to wear. Nothing is coming up searching on places I would normally look so I'm hoping for inspiration.

She's about 5'2", size 22-24, and style wise she wants something black or very dark grey/navy, and very conservative and traditional. She hates trying on clothes (and obviously can't right now anyway), and lives in jeans and sweatshirts or blouses. It would have to be okay with flat or very small heel shoes. Knee length or longer and with sleeves.

Anyone have any ideas? I've checked John Lewis and Jacques Vert and so on, no joy.

Worth trying ASOS.

They have quite a few which might work.
Depending on budget also try Toast.
I’d also look at m&s and simply be.
I’m sorry for your loss.

Evans have some lovely dresses. Sorry for your loss

Sorry for your loss. If she normally wear trousers, I've have black, work wear type trousers, a black jacket or blazer and blouse she already has. Does she already have any black heels/flats? Asda, Sainsburys and tescos all have low heels/flats.

All Debenhams.

I second black trousers. Sainsburys have some ok formal wear thats quite cheap.

Some great suggestions thank you all. The Curvissa dress might be perfect. She wouldn't wear trousers, would think it 'wrong' somehow (it's a traditional family, everyone will be in very conservative attire), but there are several great dresses you've found between you, thanks so much.

Yes, she has shoes that fit and are comfy. Phew! One less thing for her to worry about.

@SoloMummy the wrap one is lovely. I will suggest that to her, but if she says no, I might think of that for me to wear, actually. Thank you!

I got this for a family funeral and still use it (to be fair, mainly for work funerals) stretchy, quite forgiving.

Yours and Dorothy Perkins can often bring up some good stuff

Elouera · 04/06/2020 10:35

This one is velvet. Because its not shiny, it can be a flattering material:

John Lewis have a sale on currently:

Just popping back to say thank you - MIL ordered several of the dresses suggested and is going to see which one looks nicest when they arrive. Appreciate the help!

If they don't suit, try one of these from John Lewis
