Natural deodorant...

I have just started using Nuud. Please tell me if this will work. Right now my arm pits are smelling like the arse end of Satan. Apparently there is an adjustment period of around 2 weeks. I can deal with that but only if there is a genuine chance of it working. I have read all sorts of shit stuff about the adjustment period and clearing out of toxins. I don't buy any of that but I have also read that as regular antiperspirant/deos block the pores to reduce sweating, there is a period of time required for these to completely unblock and for the Nuud deo to be able to properly perform. Anyone have any knowledge or advice?

All I know is the only person who I know uses a natural deodorant smells to high heaven, so I’m completely unconvinced. We have to air the room out when she leaves. Sorry that’s probably not helpful to you.

ZaraW · 29/05/2020 17:58

I use Tom's of Maine it gets me through summers in the Middle East.

Wudgy · 29/05/2020 21:32

I have tried the adjustment period of several ( Ben and Anna, nudd, pit putty) all over the course of 18months.... honestly I am back to my usual super strength brand now and doubt I will waste my time and money again. I appreciate theY are a deodorant not antiperspirant however I stank all day everyday, clothes were ruined and I even got a rash from some( from the bicarbonate soda level I think it’s was) I gave each about 6-7 weeks so plenty of time but sadly not for me. Back to my trust roll on! Good luck and hope you have better outcomes than me!

madeittotheend · 29/05/2020 21:46

Try Pitrok it works for me for most of the year.

damnthatanxiety · 29/05/2020 22:30

Oh dear! Some good, some not so good experiences. I don't hold out much hope but will give it a few weeks whilst I can avoid people!

I am currently using Wild and it has been much better than I expected, even when cycling in the recent sunny weather.

It's not Mitchums so on a very active day, a second application in th afternoon has been useful. But it definitely hasn't been smelly.
.
You do need to make sure you wash your armpits properly (with a good bar soap) and then fully dry then them each morning before putting it on

TypicalMeBreakMyTypicalRules · 29/05/2020 22:47

I use salt of the earth and it's alright. I find it works better the longer I use it. But probably wouldn't stand up to a seriously sweaty situation. Echo pp, need to wash armpits well and dry fully before application. Aurelia do an expensive one which I think is more effective and I now save for busy days.... Not that they exist anymore Hmm

Herja · 29/05/2020 22:50

They don't work. I know many people who use them, they are all convinced they smell fine. They are all wrong, they stink to high heaven in summer by mid afternoon.

PenfoldsFive · 29/05/2020 22:53

I’m about to start using the Malin and Goetz one. I tried Pitrok and found it useless. Lush’s deodorant bar gave me really sore armpits, which I think was caused by the bicarbonate of soda.

twilightcafe · 29/05/2020 22:58

Natural deodorants in autumn/winter
Traditional deodorant in the warmer months.

Xiaoxiong · 29/05/2020 23:01

I also use Toms of Maine or Jason, tea tree scent. But I do notice it works best on freshly shaved pits so I shave more frequently than I used to. No one has commented that I smell bad!!

"Normal" antiperspirant used to give me these horrible clogged pores like a little hard lump, and if you squeezed it all the white deodorant stuff would come out like pus from a boil (and it was definitely not pus, it was the deodorant, it smelled like deodorant and had the same texture). It freaked me out that it was going into my body like that.

QueenVictoriasteapot · 29/05/2020 23:21

Pitrok for me too, everything else makes me itchy. Have used this for several years.

Rocket1982 · 29/05/2020 23:50

Give bicarbonate of soda a go, surprisingly, it works!

Crabbo · 29/05/2020 23:55

I use the natural deodorant co. It seems to work fine - my husband tells me if I stink so I definitely don’t when I’m using it. You need to make sure you wash your underarms with soap so they’re totally clean though (I know that sounds obvious but I mean not shower gel or body wash - it has to be soap).

Just swanning fragrantly in to say that Malin & Goetz is holding up well in these sweaty times. Am going to road test it against the much cheaper Schmidt (bicarb free version).

Neilsfavouritechilli · 02/06/2020 16:03

I'm currently using native which I'd recommend. Its held up on my regular 5-10 mile walks and I'm definately not smelling sweaty - my other half concurs and he's not one to lie to be kind.

onedaysoonish · 02/06/2020 16:04

This is a tricky question. I've used pitrok, the Japanese deodorants you get in boots that are supposed to be natural and also the malin and goetz eucalyptus one. None of them have worked for me!

I’ve used Nuud for a while and it seems to be working for me.
I have overactive sweat glands and have tried every deodorant going including prescription ones. I have reacted to 95% of them. Nuud is the only natural one I haven’t so far. I still sweat a fair bit, but a combination of Nuud deodorant and natural fibre clothing (cotton/linen/bamboo) has helped make things more manageable.

TableNiner · 02/06/2020 23:19

I’m using an Earth Conscious one. It’s the strong (mint) one and works so well I am able to wear tops more than a day.

damnthatanxiety · 03/06/2020 14:20

i'm not concerned so much about sweat. I am worried about BO! I don't want to smell - at all. I don't know if this is possible with natural deodorants. I hope it is

I've been using Natural Deodorant company now for about 7/8 months and my body has adjusted now, it didn't take that long actually, I was surprised. I do still get a tiny bit stinky but this is usually only if I've been doing a lot and I think it's undetectable, only if I touch my arm.pit and sniff which is ok with me! I am someone who used to use all those super strong overnight ones and I always had one pit which smelt stronger than before. I was sick of throwing away tops because the stale sweat had become ingrained in the fabric and would release on wearing each time. The natural deodorant doesn't leave me 100% dry but it is far far better than I could've hoped and I'd never go back now.

damnthatanxiety · 03/06/2020 15:09

Xiaoxiong wow! Pus-like lumps would freak me out too! Fortunately, even with heavy duty antiperspirant/deodorant I can at least say I never had pores with solid bits of product in them!

OP posts:
feesh · 03/06/2020 15:14

I have those lumps too, and also take great delight in squeezing them! It’s definitely a deodorant type compound that comes out - it has scared me too, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to go au naturelle just yet. I have switched to a weaker one (standard Dove instead of the 48 hour ones) and it hasn’t happened since.
