To ask how much you pay for clothing?

pancakeloverrr · 28/05/2020 18:35

Wondering if anyone wants to come out and state what they pay for a dress, blouse, jumper, jeans on average.

Would love to know the most you pay for clothing.

I haven’t bought anything for a while but I buy less often and pay more. However I pretty much never buy full price.

Smarshian · 28/05/2020 19:31

I barely spent that on my wedding dress!

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 28/05/2020 19:32

This is one of the most stupid, competitive, race-to-the-bottom threads I've ever read.

What on earth does it matter what anyone else spends on clothes? For some people £700 is the price of a frock, for others it's what they'd pay for a car, or a duvet, a fountain pen, ticket to a show, or piece of sporting equipment. None of us has to justify our expenditure to any other poster. We each do what makes us happy.

Ridiculous thread. Hmm

pancakeloverrr · 28/05/2020 19:34

It is a ridiculous price! But I don't shop except one a year or so, though I'm starting to think even in my no shopping situation it's still ridiculous!

OP posts:
pancakeloverrr · 28/05/2020 19:35

If I wore it once a week everyday for the rest of my life, would it justify them price? Confused

I like French Connection, GAP and Zara for day to day so not too expensive but depends on the item. I buy Reiss if I’m treating myself to something special for a wedding/ occasionally for work. Monsoon if I want a nice dress for little family events/ birthdays. I do splash out on handbags, shoes and accessories sometimes but not often, I like quite simple styles and they last a long time. I wouldn’t spend £700 on a dress , no! I actually didn’t spend anywhere near that on my wedding dress!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 28/05/2020 19:36

I'm not a spender. I'd spend max 25 for jeans. Jumpers and shirts around 20. I pay 10 for leggings.

Dresses it depends - comfy causal dresses around 20/25. But I only have two of these. I'm not a dress wearer.

If I'm going to a wedding or other formal event I'd spend up to 100 on a dress but would be more comfortable around the 75 mark. And I'd rewear it to another wedding.

I mainly shop at Sainsburys/Matalan/Next/H&M.

pancakeloverrr · 28/05/2020 19:36

My wedding dress was only £200? This dress is like THE dress of my life.

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 28/05/2020 19:36

£700 is a lot more than I would pay for a dress. But so what I have paid more than that that for a bag.

I don’t know just enjoy it I guess. Link the dress?

louderthan · 28/05/2020 19:37

I spend a lot on trainers Blush

Other than that I might spend £50+ on a coat maybe. But most of my clothes are ebay/cheaper end of high street/charity shops. I get a lot of compliments on my style.

MarshaBradyo · 28/05/2020 19:37

Not a lot more

But more

Should use commas

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 28/05/2020 19:37

Can you afford to spend 700 on a dress? If so, fine.

pancakeloverrr · 28/05/2020 19:38

I don't spend much on bags, I am hard on mine and get scratches and ruined. I generally don't shop much anyway.

OP posts:
Mnthrowaway20202 · 28/05/2020 19:39

I feel like you should post the dress here

pancakeloverrr · 28/05/2020 19:40

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

Yes, due to not shopping very much except a few pieces maybe once a year now. If that.

I get attached to my clothes and keep them looking brand new. So I don't buy much at all anymore.

Yes I can afford it, I just don't know if it's so ridiculous I should return it.

OP posts:
pancakeloverrr · 28/05/2020 19:40

I would rather not post the dress for privacy reasons

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 28/05/2020 19:40

Link it we’ll help you decide

Soph88888 · 28/05/2020 19:41

Wear the dress 70 times and it cost a tenner each time.
That’s how I justify designer bags etc

pancakeloverrr · 28/05/2020 19:42

@Soph88888

YES!!! I will def wear it more than 70 times.

OP posts:
Sadie789 · 28/05/2020 19:42

Lighten up @PerditaProvokesEnmity

MarshaBradyo · 28/05/2020 19:42

Just keep it then. Don’t sweat it

RoseMartha · 28/05/2020 19:44

Jeans; last pair I bought myself were kids ones from primark for abt £7. I have been given second hand, several dorothy perkins pairs which will keep me going years as I am more a skirt/dress/tunic and leggings person.

Dress. Usually get in sales or second hand and spend between £5-25. Various brands.

Jumper: usually £20-25. I dont own many jumpers.

No blouses.

Coat. My last new coat was £14 in the January sales down from £40.

Skirts: £10-25 usually buy second hand or sales.

Tunic top. As skirts.

Footwear max £50. Again try and get in sales.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/05/2020 19:45

I buy either Whistles or Levi’s jeans, so about £100.

Dresses probably average around £50, usually from places like Topshop.

Spend less on summer things, because it’s not very warm here.

Always buy good leather shoes and boots, and spend up to £200 on a winter coat.

I like a discount code, and also have an NUS card, which helps.

Soph88888 · 28/05/2020 19:45

In that case dont stress!
Love the dress and know that it's an investment and wear it with pride x

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 28/05/2020 19:47

OP what is your agenda?

You are, presumably, an adult, and free to spend your money on whatever you choose. No one on this thread can tell you whether the dress is worth £700 to you.

Even if you were to post a photo people could only give their opinions on whether it pleases their eyes and would be worth the money for them.

They might also consider whether the dress is flattering to you - but that's an entirely different question and you don't have to take any notice either way. We don't all have the same life; so we don't all make the same choices.

I wish I understood what you wanted here ...
