Hi

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a semi permanent hair dye that would cover my roots. I have medium/dark brown hair.

Thanks

I always use Garnier Nutrisse. But do it on freshly shampoo'd and towel dried hair not dry as it tells you.

@Rumtopf thanks for your quick reply. Do you think it would cover quite a bit of grey on my roots?

@bookwriter yes it should do. I have about 25% greys on the top section of my hair and I use 3.6 to colour my hair, it's a reddish brown and the nearest I've found to my natural colour, although the greys absorb more red pigment and shine v bright in the sun. Similar to lowlights without an extortionate cost. I leave it on longer, about 40mins and leave the conditioning treatment on for 5 mins, my hair is lovely and soft.
Don't forget to do a patch test first just to be cautious and if your hair is longer than shoulder length you may want to use 2 boxes.

I am quite interested in this so following too

BUt @Rumtopf isn't nutrisse permanent?

Rumtopf · 29/05/2020 09:00

@Anaviasalamanca I thought it was semi-perm, will have to run upstairs in a mo to check! It certainly fades over time and apart from my greys shining through like a halo you can't notice my roots after 5-6 weeks.
My hair grows so fast (I dyed it last week and already have 1cm of grey showing fgs) I dye it every 6 weeks.

I’ve been using L’Oréal Castings Creme Gloss, I have quite stubborn, auburn with a bit of grey hair and I colour my hair medium brown- Iced truffle does a good job in toning down the roots (comes out darker than the box, especially on the lengths of hair) while not producing any red tones, although I may try a darker shade for my roots next time as they really are a bugger to cover but I do like the L’Oréal castings, which is semi permanent.

Sorry, you were right, it IS permanent! It washes out very similarly to a semi permanent though and I'm not left with stark roots.

Thanks for the replies.

I have ordered Maria Nila colour refresh. It is expensive but it has good reviews. It's a colour mask which washes out after a few washes. I'll update and let you know what it is like Smile

I've now tried the Maria Nila colour refresh in cacao. I left it on for almost an hour as this is what someone else said they did in a good review.

The product didn't come with any gloves, luckily I have some at home. It has made my hair slightly darker, you can't really tell the difference. My hair feels really nice and soft. It hasn't covered my greys, they are very slightly blended in but still noticeable.

I don't think I will buy this again as it's expensive.
