I've just found out I'm pregnant and I'm also going to be losing my job. So I need a find a new job fast! My work place is really casual so I don't have any smart clothes.

Please can anyone recommend a suit for me to buy.

I definitely want all black. Elastic waist is necessary.

I'm short, size 16 to 18.

Thanks.

In the past I've got suits from M&S which were smart, but the following year could barely find anything! It seems to vary on the season. I think they do have trouser and skirts in various lengths though. I've also found one at next last year.

Is it just for the interview you want the suit, or would you wear at the new job also? Navy might give you more options to mix and match blouses if you will be wearing it more than once.

Congrats BTW!

Do you think you really need a suit? A quality wrap dress is more than smart enough these days for all but the most corporate jobs

BeeePeee · 26/05/2020 10:52

@CMOTDibbler definitely not a dress. I've got an extra tyre so if I wear a dress, I'll look several months pregnant! And I don't have any shoes to go with dresses.

@Elouera I looked at m and s, but I'll try next. I don't know if I'll need a suit every day, depends on the job.

I hate wearing a suit. One of the reasons I like my current place is because it's so casual.

As the other poster said, maybe a wrap or emperor line dress with a smart blazer is another option, rather than a full suit? An emperor line dress can be worn even when the bump starts too.

So would you prefer trousers and a top then? How about a blazer, loose vest and ankle grazer trousers with side expansion

LizzieVereker · 26/05/2020 14:05

I’m the same size as you, and quite short. I like the Dorothy Perkins ankle grazer trouser and blazer combos.

Congratulations and good luck 😉

Do you have any black jackets? If you have something already I'd get a black tube skirt and wear an a-line hip length top. You can get away with stretchy skirts until 6+ months. I did this and people who didn't know couldn't tell I was pregnant until 6-7 months.

This is not necessarily a suit but I have these separates from H and M and they're great value. These trousered are great value very comfy and will accommodate the early weeks bloat before the bump. I wear the trousers with similar jackets and floaty hip length blouses, 4 DDs in 6 years has left me with a very rounded tummy. The trousers are nice with flats or heels.

Instead of a formal suit how about navy wide leg trousers and a cream waterfall jacket (Wallis do one) that would take you further into your pregnancy?

BeeePeee · 26/05/2020 23:04

Thanks very much for your suggestions.

@Lidlfix please could I have a link for those trousers? I tried to find them on the m and s website but I couldn't find them.

Beer sorry I am useless at links on my phone. In the Ladies, Trousers, Chinos and Slacks of H and M website or App then they should come up. I leave my pride at the door when it comes to product descriptions and sizing . They are not slack on me Blush
