Just ordering myself a box from this outfit:

loststock.co/

No idea when it will arrive but I thought it looked good, ordered one for DH too (in "dark" and "plain", he's a boring sod).

Mine is not yet shipped, don't know why I got two tracking numbers!

I've noticed on the Facebook lost stock swap page a lot of people are finding Matalan tags in their clothing and items are selling on the Matalan site for £5-10 each. I kind of feel a bit suspicious about the whole thing really as if we aren't being told the truth about the value of the boxes then how can we be sure the money we spend is actually going to people in need? I've ordered a box and don't really care much about what I receive as long as it's helping people in need but I'm dubious.

Mine arrived today.
A white vest top, a white wafty top and a mustard linen vest top. Quality not great.

I'm a bit unimpressed if it's all Matalan. Nothing wrong with Matalan per se, but it was being sold as reduced as otherwise going to landfill and not paying the workers and you'd easily get 3 tops from there for £35! Are they ripping off everyone?

Report
Clymene · 10/08/2020 15:26

It's fine that it's basically selling for RRP except they are advertising the clothes as being worth twice the value you paid for them and that's not true.

I really think they'll come unstuck here and lose all the goodwill they generated which is a shame.

I also received mine today and feeling really disappointed.

I saw another lady got the exact same box as me and she was about a foot taller and looked stunning in the lot, but I know that the red slip dress is 100% polyester and see through (Halloween costume type quality), so it was obviously a good pic! Could imagine it being for sale at Primark for £10 tops.

Then a £5 Matalan pocket vest (very wearable, fine). A black 'lace' top vest, not great quality so maybe a tenner.

I thought the khaki linen vest was lovely and convinced myself that's where the £50-odd quid RRP must have gone but just found it on Matalan for £12.50.

Sort of wish I'd just made the 37% donation straight to the charity, although I'm more annoyed at myself for expecting something wonderful!

Definitely Matalan.

www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2767973_c47q/stripe-sleeveless-linen-top-blue

I know that early on, there was talk about Gap and Top Shop clothing. I never expected designer clothing at bargain basement prices to be honest, but Matalan is definitely cheaper end of the market.

I am trying to stay positive and look at it as a charity donation with the bonus of a few clothes. I think I'm more worried that there appears to be no differentiation between ages/styles. I'm a lumpy size 16 in my late 40s - I don't want a slinky bias cut floor length maxi dress, or a sleeveless vest.

Personally I think the organisation are coming from a good place - buy up some extra stock, support the workers. Then the media caught onto it and it went a bit nuts - rather than putting the brakes on and dealing with the orders they had, they accepted more and more and more and so now you have customers waiting 11 weeks or more when they were told 6 to 8, and getting a very random selection of stuff.

Well they've deleted the whole Facebook group where people were talking about stuff being from Matalan now Shock

Report
SockYarn · 10/08/2020 15:55

Really? Wow. I'm only on the reveal and trade group. I suppose though the whole removing the labels was not to "shame" the brands who weren't honouring orders.

Clymene · 10/08/2020 16:05

That's the one that's gone @SockYarn. Or they e blocked me completely from it!

The group is still there sock yarn so I suspect they’ve deleted you Shock

Clymene · 10/08/2020 16:23

It's me that's been blocked. Blimey. They really need a decent PR manager / this is not the way to deal with (legitimate) customer comments

Report
PenCreed · 10/08/2020 16:28

The reveal and trade group isn’t official. The admin has posted saying she set it up for fun and take any complaints up with Lost Stock.

I think where they’ve screwed up is selling stuff that’s actually in the stores/labelled. Otherwise we’d never have known!

Hmm it's a bit odd that the completely unaffiliated admin blocked me then. I just said what I'd said on my first post today on this thread. I didn't call them scammers or rip off merchants or anything like that.

The person who challenged me most vociferously claimed to have nothing to do with Lost Stock but coincidentally hails from Edinburgh- where the company is based Hmm

Anyway I've swapped something I didn't like in a different group so I'm happy enough. I just won't ever buy from them again Smile

That's a bit suspect, I agree! It is also the group advertised on the Lost Stock web pages, so is semi-official at least Hmm

How does this even work in terms of choosing the stock personally for "you". They will have to ship the goods here in bulk otherwise it's cost prohibitive.

Report
NotJustACigar · 10/08/2020 17:54

It's all just so dodgy and I would like to know how we can be sure the money is even going to charity? The Facebook page is suspicious for not allowing anything but glowing praise of what is clearly turning out to be a bit of a scam. If we the consumers are being scammed how can we possibly be confident the producers aren't?

Report
SockYarn · 10/08/2020 17:54

It's not personally for you - you tell them your size and whether you prefer bright/dark/neutrals or plain/pattern.

And then they send you whatever they have anyway. Hmm

@Clymene it’s been so widely publicised up here that everyone and their dog is on that page. Most people I know have bought one and received theirs in the last few days but I don’t know anyone who works for them - although you would think my sister does the way she weighs in 😂

I have a friend who used to work with the foundation they are working with and I have the breakdown somewhere (I’ll dig it out).

Anyway, got mine today - a yellow top which I tried on with dark blue jeans and really loved. A grey vesty thing which I tried with the jeans too but I might divert to my spin class kit ( if we ever get back to the gym) and a white top which although I love the style in the preview was never going to suit me but luckily my sister has the giraffe dress I love and really wants this top so win-win

... found the breakdown (attached)

@SockYarn that's what I meant you chose your style preferences but that can't be the case because they have to ship in bulk.

The website literally says

"Shopping with Lost Stock is different from other online shopping experiences. Instead of choosing your item, you tell us about your style, and we use our algorithms to match your style to the clothes we are buying from factories that have seen their stock orders cancelled without warning."

Therefore I would assume they aren't just sending you what they have.

My box was rubbish, out of the clothes that have been posted, I like the polka dot and the tie dye maxi, the rest aren't my thing at all. If they couldn't stick to trying to adhere to people's preferences they should have been open and honest about that, as I said on another thread, I wish I had just donated £35 and it all go to charity rather than have a chunk taken for some hideous clothing.

Report
userd · 10/08/2020 19:15

Although drilling down on the website & seeing that gender & size are some of the style preferences that's a clearly a very loose claim.

Report
Choochoose · 10/08/2020 19:15

I did not get either of the maxis btw, just from the pics posted on the swap group they look like the nicest imo.
