Skirt at gateway of graveyard.

This skirt is incredibly useful in a 'chuck on and forget about it' way.
But it really sticks out in an A, and it's short. Three inches above knee short.
I only wear it with thick tights and flats.
I'm 50. I don't buy the age limits for clothes thing. But I'm also very petite. So I (possibly) look a bit like an aged dolly.

  • Should I chuck?
  • Does anyone's daughter want it? :-(
  • Can anyone suggest a more grown up but equally 'just chuck it on and forget about it' alternative?
  • I do have more on trend midis etc. Pencils look really good on me. Can't find any.

Do you like the way you look in it? If so, and it’s a useful wearable piece, then keep it.

cakeandchampagne · 21/05/2020 15:30

If you like to walk, maybe it will be good as an alternative to shorts in warmer weather.

notacooldad · 21/05/2020 15:34

I'm older than you and I have loads of skirts like that.
In winter I wear them with thick tights a jumper and boots.
In summer with a t shirt and maybe s cardi or denim jacket if it is cool.
I usually have converse or vans for comfort.
It's a versatile skirt.

notacooldad · 21/05/2020 15:35

I had to re read your post.
I thought you found the skirt at the cemetery!
😂😂😂

CoronaIsComing · 21/05/2020 15:38

I’m a bit confused by the title but I think you should continue to wear it if you like it. It’s perfectly suitable for anyone!

SingingSands · 21/05/2020 15:38

I also thought you'd found a skirt in a graveyard Grin

I'd keep it. Like you say, you find it easy to wear and that's a good thing. Put it away now for Autum/Winter and you'll enjoy it again when you rediscover it.

Elouera · 21/05/2020 15:42

@notacooldad- I thought the exact same thing- a skirt was found on the gate into the cemetery!!! Confused

If you need to also wear thick tights with it, its hardy a throw on and forget type of skirt! Even if someone here wanted it, you haven't said what size it is? If the skirt fits and you can sit down/walk comfortably in it, why throw it?

Janpot66 · 21/05/2020 15:43

I thought you had left it in a graveyard!! 😀 If you feel good in it then continue to wear it.

georgialondon · 21/05/2020 15:44

Was also hoping to see a pic of a skirt you found in a graveyard.

moveandmove · 21/05/2020 15:51

Another one here that thought you'd found it in a cemetery!

DamnYankee · 21/05/2020 16:08

I also thought you'd found a skirt in a graveyard

I found some boxers on a jogging path. Hmm

Keep it. As you are petite and it looks good - I'd wear with tights and low heeled boots (not thigh boots!)

Terralee · 21/05/2020 16:16

I thought you were wearing it to a cemetery!!

I've got a skirt like that from River Island. I wear it in the summer with vests etc & in the winter with black opaques & jumpers.

popularinthe80s · 21/05/2020 16:39

Thanks everyone. No, sorry, my caffeine-ated brain - no graveyards or vampires etc involved).
I think I've just become institutionalized by patriarchy/the Daily Mail - Over 50 (frankly, over 35) - hide under tent.

GrimDamnFanjo · 21/05/2020 17:01

Nah petites should always wear minis! And a-line is a universally flattering shape.

MrsGrindah · 21/05/2020 17:05

I also thought you were asking us whether it’s appropriate to wear something you’d found in a graveyard! Honestly...you’re just click bait aren’t you ? Grin

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 21/05/2020 17:09

Agree, petite and mini is a good combo! 40-something petite here and realised I look good in them so why not keep?!

Boden are usually good for A line skirts and do petite. You just have to avoid their love of pattern and buy the one plain one they usually do.

popularinthe80s · 21/05/2020 19:56

Thank you, all:-)
What do you wear on top, though? I used to wear v fitted (NOT low necked - but fitted) t-shirts. But it feels like too much with 2 inches of black-tighted thigh on display.
But too loose when you're petite turns you into a sack of spuds.
If anyone is feeling energetic, I would be v grateful for links to jumpers/t-shirts that might fit the bill.

I thought it was going to be about the suitably of wearing the skirt while watching a funeral from afar.

GrimDamnFanjo · 22/05/2020 00:50

What's the nork situation?
I'm a bit over blessed so tend to wear v or open necked more floaty tops often with interesting sleeves. So the bottom half is more fitted than the top iyswim.

popularinthe80s · 22/05/2020 06:48

@StCharlotte :-)
@GrimDamnFanjo - theoretically not colossal (32C) but looks colossal (I'm a size 6/8 and 5ft 1. Don't forget the 1 inch).

You have hit the nail on the head - I tend usually to go for fitted bottom, v necked more floaty top. But this skirt is proper A line with a sticky out A. So a floaty top might be too much sticking out?

Love the thread title!

Agree to keep it and wear it. And a fitted top would be fine with it. Think you’re worrying unnecessarily!

popularinthe80s · 22/05/2020 07:11

@dozer, thank you.
I work in an office (obviously not currently seeing them in person) of beautiful, young, tall colleagues wafting around in midis and maxis and whatever--is.
I think I'm having a confidence crisis rather than a sartorial crisis.
