Eyes sting in the evening if I apply make up

This is something that has happened to me regularly in the last few years and I have no clue what to change in my routine!
I apply eyeshadow every day and most days also eye pencil and mascara, but no matter what I put on by the early evening I need to wash my face (or at least my eyes) as they sting so so much.
General feeling is that the make up 'melts' into my eyes. But how can it be? And all the different brands too?
I even tried to change my facecream, not to apply face cream, apply a setting eyelid serum...no major changes.

What am I missing??

Does your moisturiser have any spf in it? I was using an Olay moisturiser with an spf and getting terrible eye stinging. I now use a moisturiser without it and a separate spf from La Roche Posay and I don’t get the stinging anymore.

I suffer from hayfever and this happens to me.

No spf and it seems to happen even if I don't put make up on my eyes. So annoying!
Yes, I suffer from hayfever but this happens all year round.
Maybe it's just a case of oily eyelids?

Yes my eyes really sting later in the day so I generally take my make up off early evening (not a problem at the moment!)

I have oily eyelids and also rosacea which I know affects eyes too.

It could be a condition called dry eye. You can get drops from opticians. I started putting it in my eyes overnight and after a few weeks they were much improved. Now I only need to use it occasionally.

I’ve also switched mascara brand as my old one was making it worse, even though I’d used it for years.

If I use the two-layered Nivea oily eye make up remover, my eyes feel like they've been bathed in acid for a good 24 hours. Do you use that or one like it?

This happens to me sometimes. I’m an optician and I have no idea why 😂 Makeup goes on fine on a morning. But if I do it for the evening my eyes can sting or stream for hours!
