Holy grail white shirt

I'm looking for a white shirt/blouse that is:

Not see-through
Buttons up over big boobs without gaping
Is long enough to tuck in
Is machine washable (willing to comprise on this one)
Costs under £60, (or if you're sure it'll still be there next month £100).

Does it exist? Have you found it?

Or am I doomed to unbuttoning over a vest top, that I have to adjust all day forever?

Classic or vintage styles are preferred.

Might not be what you are looking for exactly Because you didn’t mention fit, but Uniqlo do a range of Rayon shirts. They are looser and drape if you like that style. There are different collar styles including button up but also a style with an open neck and collar but no buttons.

newtb · 20/05/2020 11:59

Bravissimo used to do them

candilemon · 20/05/2020 12:11

Try a man’s collarless shirt, those worn by legal and clericals!

Notverybright · 20/05/2020 12:22

newtb I've seen the bravissimo ones. They looked see-through from the website. Have you tried them?

Thinkle thanks, I've never really looked at uniqlo before.

Is this the type of thing you mean @candilemon?

I have this one - they have 25% off which will bring the price down from the original £79:

Notverybright · 20/05/2020 13:09

MoltoAgitato I like the slim fit style. It's not see-through then?

Notverybright · 20/05/2020 13:11

Oh they've sold out of every size but 10, I'll put myself on the email list.

I found this article from a couple of years ago:
www.google.com/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/fashion-beauty/womens-clothing/best-white-shirt-for-women-work-london-a8361376.html%3famp

Don't think they do that shirt at next anymore. But Arket seem to have more sizes than it says in that article. Never heard of the brand before though.

Boden keep coming up in my googles, are their shirts good?

That bravissimo one looks opaque on the 'normal lady' pic. Adding it to the short list.

Focusing on ‘vintage’ then you wouldn’t go wrong with this:

www.vivienofholloway.com/women-c70/tops-c12/raglan-blouse-white-p244

Not see through, cut for curves so would fit over boobs. Only long enough to tuck in with a vintage high waist really though I think but under £50.

Notverybright · 20/05/2020 14:18

That's every nice one MrsJakeLovell. I am trying to get more high waisted/natural waisted stuff as it's more flattering. Also one for the short list.

What size are you, if you don’t mind me asking?

Notverybright · 20/05/2020 22:25

I don't, 16-18.

It’s worth trying something from Arket or cos. Usually good thick cotton at the price point you want. Also wear a nude bra under it.If you want slim cut and no gape though - you might want to try somewhere where they do specifically fit for a large bust.

I’m 12-14 and usually size up to 16 to avoid gape as I am tall and biggish chested. There are a lot of oversize shapes around at the moment, which tend to be a bit better to avoid the dreaded gape.

Gwynfluff · 21/05/2020 06:57

This in size 44 might work (arket have a while page of white shirts)

worldsworststepfordwife · 21/05/2020 07:51

Arket top sizes are mad a 14 is a medium also Uniqlo we’re doing white denim shirts that may fit the bill but they’re also oversized to the point that I exchanged to an XS and I’m a 14

typicallyatypical · 21/05/2020 08:03

I would also recommend Arket. Part of the H&M group along with Cos, &Other Stories, and a few other brands if you are worried. Quality wise, they were launched as the shop for quality basics on the high street and I would agree. Far superior to H&M and &OS, (and Uniqlo), similar to Cos for lots of things, but for shirts and cotton basics they really excel.

I'm flat chested and a smaller dress size so I can't do a direct recommendation but there are a least 4-5 options that might be worth ordering, maybe in a couple of sizes? As an 8-10 I go for an XS-S usually.

(I shouldn't say, because this is terrible advice, but they have the Klarna credit option, if you return anything you can just pause the whole payment and pay for what you keep after the return is accepted) Customer Service is also excellent, always get through to an advisor and they are very flexible on the return period.

MoltoAgitato · 21/05/2020 08:41

John Lewis sell jigsaw so worth looking there - it’s nice thick cotton. Bugger to iron though.

il0vew1ne · 21/05/2020 08:45

I have one from Boden it looks lovely but that is also a nightmare to iron, so have hardly wore it

Notverybright · 21/05/2020 11:05

I think the Arket ones do look really good quality. I think that the loose style might look nice tucked in to a high-waisted skirt/trousers.

il0vew1ne thanks for letting me know re boden.
