I’ve been ill for a few weeks now and before I took to my bed I put my hair up in a scrunchie. Now four weeks later it is time to sort it out. It’s going to take a few days as I’m still recovering so I can only take so much.

I thought it might be fun to document the transformation from mad cat lady to mad old lady again.

My hair normally down to my bum so this is not going to be fun but I cannot wait for it to be back to normal again.

You'll get there OP, there is no rush. I think hair fallout is normal here, there'll be a buildup of shedding - I have long hair and lose loads daily when washing or brushing and still have loads of hair left. The detangling brushes are wonderful- I love my Wet Brush- but they do make you shed hair I find, as they capture every part of it as they go through with so many prongs.

Always detangle from the bottom up, never down from the top, hold the hair you're brushing to prevent scalp pulling and tightening knots and keep on soaking in conditioner.

So hope you're feeling improved now Flowers

Get yourself a silk pillowcase, reduces the tangling while you sleep x

Just to let you know that it took a lot of work but we did get it sorted.

I paid my first visit to the hairdresser today and it was so good. My hair looks like it should do.

Oh my, that is some great hair you have. You will have some good photo's to look back on when your hair can be sleek and lovely again when you are fit and well again.

Op your hair is beautiful! So glad you got it all sorted, and what a lovely dh you have. I love a happy story in the morning Grin

ElGuardiandenoche · 29/09/2020 11:01

Aw! Thank you very much, you are so kind.

The hairdresser couldn’t get the chair high enough and his stool low enough so had to crouch to sort the bottom.

Your hair is stunning, it doesn’t look like the same head of hair compared to your first photo.

ElGuardiandenoche · 29/09/2020 13:21

Thank you very much @MaitlandGirl. It’s incredible what just brushing your hair every day does. They only had to take off a couple of inches in the end.

This is a new hairdresser to me as I needed one with no steps to get in. They’d not seen my hair before, I’d said it was very long when I booked the appointment. When I sat in the chair and he took the scrunchie out of my top knot and my hair fell down and he went “oh! my god”. The hairdresser working on the lady opposite went “what? What’s the matter?” and my guy stepped aside and just gestured and the other hairdresser and client just went “wow!”

Beautiful hair. Thank goodness you got it sorted.

ClinkyMonkey · 29/09/2020 16:55

Goodness me, that is one fabulous head of hair you have, OP. Beautiful.

ElGuardiandenoche · 29/09/2020 17:01

Aw! Cheers folks. Before it was cut I could sit on it but now not quite. The hairdresser thinks because I can’t wash it often, sometimes it’s left for two weeks or so, that I’m not washing the natural oils out and rarely,if ever, blow dry it, it’s saved it from too much damage.

Wow, your hair is stunning!

Paddyclova · 30/09/2020 04:08

Lovely. Maybe if you’re needing to tie it up again for a length of time spray conditioner on it and plait it.

dontgobaconmyheart · 30/09/2020 10:30

Lovely update OP. Your hair is looking beautiful, how nice it must feel! Hope you are doing well.

Lillygolightly · 30/09/2020 10:53

Myself and my 3 DD’s all have long hair so I have become very used to dealing with knots and tangles.

I found what works is to use a brush, better still a tangle teaser and to start from the bottom and move upwards towards the tangled knotted hair. Rather than trying to brush through the knots I use my fingers to separate the knot as much as possible and then pull strands of hair upwards and out of the knot, this is of course time consuming but much less painful than tugging through the knot with a brush and also leads to much less breakage. Eventually as you pull hair upwards and out of the knot you get to a much smaller knot which is usually a bit matted and can be gently pulled apart with fingers and then brushed through to detangle the final bit. I also find this much easier to do when the hair is dry, once it’s de tangled than I wash and condition it.

OP you have absolutely beautiful hair!!! It looks all lovely and swishy. So glad it’s all sorted for you now.

ElGuardiandenoche · 04/10/2020 15:38

You are all making me blush. Thank you very much for all the compliments and tips.

I haven’t had hair this long since I was a small child. I had to have it cut short when the school bully put teazles in it and it’s never grown longer than my shoulder blades since. Since I’ve been going through menopause it’s growing like mad.
