Tips for GHD waves

I'm utterly cackhanded. How can I use my GHD straighteners to make my hair wavy? The hairdressers make it look so easy!

I've watched the tutorials. I've tried. I need the special insider tips. Help!

How long is your hair? If it's short you'll need to more wave it if it's long you can more fuel it, think what we used to do with ribbon as a kid with scissors, as you pull the iron down the hair curl it by pulling it down and kinda away from your face. I'd also curl away from your face. If it's short, say should length/Bob it's more of a quick up curl then hold this piece and do a quick down curl, I can't explain it but hopefully a you tube video will help you see what I mean. Also separate your hair into plenty of layers so your not trying to curl too much at once. Maybe try use a product like salt spray/texturising spray first if your hair is struggling to hold the curl and I find hair curls better if it's not freshly washed Smile

Thanks. My hair is collarbone length.

I can't get my head around the YouTube videos, they seem like rocket science to me.

I think it just takes lots of practice, maybe using more of a wand instead of curling irons would be easier ?

I was like you, Chochito. Watched no end of YouTube videos but still made an arse of it. Until the one video that told me to hold the GHD's vertically, but with the hot plates pointing down. It was this angle that made all the difference and I can easily do it now.

Still can't fathom false eyelashes though.

choc27 · 13/05/2020 13:18

@DirtyTicket do you have the video link for that?!

Ginfilledcats · 13/05/2020 14:32

Best way is to curl with the straighteners or a wand, and brush the curls out til they are loose waves

Chochito · 13/05/2020 14:35

I don't have a wand.

Thanks, everyone. DirtyTicket I will try again and really try to keep them vertical.

Ginfilledcats How do you get curls / waves if using straighteners?

I haven't a clue which YouTube video it was but I'll keep looking. Took me ages to find a way that worked. Even my exasperated hairdresser tried to teach me. As for a wand, I burnt my hands and head with them. I'm also a member of the cack-handed club.

Thanks!
