Dungarees

QueenOfToast · 12/05/2020 16:25

I think that I might have lost the plot. I am nearly 50 and have just ordered a pair of denim dungarees online. I kept seeing them on Instagram and they looked so gorgeous that I ordered a pair. Any thoughts on dungarees?

They can look really good, my sister has a long pair & a short pair that she wears with either crop tops or pretty sheer tops underneath (she's very slim though) & trainers.
I think for the summer they're nice with a bright vest top under for example.

chunkyrun · 12/05/2020 16:38

I would love some Lucy & yaks. Going to be my goal treat when I complete 12 weeks of couch 2 5k

Bluewavescrashing · 12/05/2020 16:41

Lucy & Yak dungarees are fab. So comfy. I like wearing a cashmere jumper underneath in winter or a stripy t shirt in summer.

QueenOfToast · 12/05/2020 16:42

Good luck with the running @chunkyrun. I've been doing C25K since the start of the year and ran 11km the other day so maybe it's the running that makes me think I can wear dungarees!

I'm not slim enough to wear a crop top underneath like @Terralee 's sister, but I was thinking that I could wear a tighter fitting top than I would wear with jeans.

I love them!
Run & Fly are my go to brand

Ludways · 12/05/2020 16:52

I love them on other people but just hate them on myself and hate the fact I do, lol. Go for it.

PretzelVanderspling · 12/05/2020 16:55

I’m almost 50 and have a lovely collection of dungarees. Classic denim, striped ones from Lucy and Yak and some with Bees on. I love them.

CockCarousel · 12/05/2020 16:56

I've got some teal cord ones from Lucy & Yak on the way, and I too am nearly 50! Also in love with their boiler suits and will almost definitely get one if I like the stuff I've already ordered.

hammeringinmyhead · 12/05/2020 20:12

I love them! I have denim ones and 2 pairs of Lucy and Yak. When we are actually seeing people again and I'm not wearing leggings and a t shirt I'm going to wear them with stripy tops and white trainers.

MikeUniformMike · 12/05/2020 20:37

I'm older than you OP and I have several pairs.

Victoria1083 · 13/05/2020 08:39

I never get to see anybody wearing dungarees in real life - people only seem to wear and love them online.
I had 2 pairs as an overweight teenager in the 90’s and now that I’m in my 30’s (and 4 sizes smaller), they don’t bring back very fond memories about how I felt about my body at the time. So it’s not them, it’s me.
Also, to me, dungarees seem like a short-lived trend of the moment that the SM tries to force sown on us. I don’t follow such trends and try to be mindful and only buy clothes that I know I will wear for seasons to come.

CockCarousel · 13/05/2020 10:36

I'm sorry you've had such a negative dungaree experience Victoria.

I don't know about fashion trends as anyone who knows me will tell you Grin I've just always liked dungarees.

MikeUniformMike · 13/05/2020 11:30

I have always liked them too. About a year ago I was in London for the day, and lots of women were wearing them.

I wear them a lot. Usually short one or L&Y type ones. The only downside is going to the loo - a pita if you have a coat or something on, and I usually have lots of things in the pockets.

dudsville · 13/05/2020 11:32

I too gave in to the dungarees - but unfortunately I bought black cord (lovely Lucy and Yak pair) and I have a lot of pets. I can't wear them without looking hairy!!!! I will buy again and but colour next time.

chunkyrun · 13/05/2020 11:45

Thank you :)

hammeringinmyhead · 13/05/2020 14:39

I see lots of people in them in the South West. I wouldn't say that they're a passing fad - I bought a pair 3 years ago from Topshop and they still sell the same ones.

SneakersandSocks · 13/05/2020 14:55

Love a pair of dungarees, I have a couple of cotton ones from Monki and a pair of denim from Topshop, so comfy. I’m 33 and they have become abit of a staple now, with a nice white tee and converse.

Branleuse · 13/05/2020 14:56

Ive got some. I love them.

MikeUniformMike · 13/05/2020 15:30

Animal print is good if you have pets.

QueenOfToast · 22/05/2020 16:31

My dungarees arrived and I love them; they're clearly man-repeller items of clothing as indicated by these comments from my family:-

DH - they look comfy
(Has this man learned nothing from 20 years of marriage?)

DS - you look like an 8 year old girl who made a wish to grow big
(This man-child has a lot to learn.)

Anyway, I'm feeling very happy right now and I think I love these dungarees more than DH.

ofwarren · 22/05/2020 16:34

Wow, they look great on you!!!

OneOfTheGrundys · 22/05/2020 16:34

They look nice! I get ‘children’s entertainer gone wrong’. 😂

feelingfragile · 22/05/2020 16:38

I've got two pairs and another on the way. I'm 46. They can look a bit like something off a kids TV show but it depends what you wear them with really.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 22/05/2020 16:40

They look great! I totally love my Lucy & Yaks. Unfortunately I can't fit into them at the moment as I'm too pregnant Sad
