Facial sunscreen

I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve never used a specific sunscreen on my face. I’ve usually had make up with SPF or my moisturiser had it but I’m paring back on what I use and I want a good facial sunscreen.

Any recommendations?? I have oily, slightly sensitive skin.

I use this tinted suncream from la Roche posay www.laroche-posay.co.uk/anthelios-xl-anti-shine-tinted-spf-50

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/05/2020 14:16

I use ultrasun mineral spf 50, it’s cruelty free.

UnderLockdown · 10/05/2020 18:14

I like Biore

Livingoffcoffee · 10/05/2020 18:34

Following as I've been thinking the same thing!

Would you use the spf as moisturiser? Not in addition?

LlamaofDrama · 10/05/2020 21:51

I use Biore Watery Essence which is SPF50. it's lovely and light which is important to me as I can't bear heavy claggy suncream on my face. But I read recently that while it's a good every day product it's not up to really strong sun/ holiday use... so now I'm questioning myself.

Abby21 · 10/05/2020 22:50

Sorry to jump on...but interested in biore one....where do you buy it from?

SarBear1980 · 11/05/2020 06:59

I use the Alpha H one on a daily basis and for holidays Superdrug do a really highly rated face suncream SPF50. I find the Superdrug one not great under make up but perfect for holidays where I wouldn’t wear make up on beach, pool and ski slope!

princessbear80 · 11/05/2020 07:07

The Altruist SPF50 one from Amazon is amazing.

catwithflowers · 11/05/2020 07:18

Maybe a daft question, but can you not just use normal sunscreen on your face? I use a Nivea for kids Factor 50+ Spray which absorbs really easily and feel light and not sticky 😊

danuta22 · 11/05/2020 09:34

i like ultrasun, meant to last all day, unless extreme conditions.

MehMehMeow · 12/05/2020 00:03

@Abby21 I buy biore via eBay but from Japanese sellers only. It’s the only facial sunscreen that doesn’t react with me. I’ve tried LRP, Helios etc but find they melt into my eyes off my forehead

Astill · 12/05/2020 00:33

Ultrasun factor 50 with skin tint. It's lovely and gives you a bit of colour without looking fake. I use it all year round instead if foundation

BatshitCrazyWoman · 12/05/2020 15:40

I like Ultrasun too - if you use the untinted one, put it on clean skin and give it time to 'bond' with your skin then put on other products. I love the fact that it doesn't smell of anything. I don't like the smell of suncream.

On the recommendation of a dermatologist I visited a few years ago, I bough Heliocare factor 50 for my face. I have olive skin but didn't use to use sun screen so developed hyperpigmentation marks. Now I use this every day, after my moisturiser. It easily sits under make up. I get it on Amazon because it's easy - not sure if you can get it in shops. I swear by it now. When I go on holiday it takes my face a couple of days to catch up with my body tan-wise. But after that I develop as deep as tan on my face as I do everywhere else. Here is the link I use: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B072DZQ5RN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

BluebellBrigade · 12/05/2020 19:07

I've just started to use the Heliocare tinted factor 50 and have been really impressed with it.

Drinkandknowthings · 12/05/2020 19:25

Thanks all! Definitely a few to look into.

Biore from amazon. I have tested it on holiday in very strong sunlight and it protected me more than Ultrasun. Never burnt or got freckles with it, unlike other brands.

stayathomer · 12/05/2020 22:17

catwithflowers I only started using a specific one when I was diagnosed with rosacea, and I find it just feels nicer and I can wear it under make up too (Roche Posay)!

GuyFawkesDay · 12/05/2020 22:19

Allergies so have to be careful but I love etude House Sunprise. The mild airy finish one. Mineral based but no white cast at all. It's fantastic.

RD15 · 12/05/2020 22:53

Another vote for Heliocare. I use the oil free gel.

Apologies I've no idea how to do a link but I just got this when it was on offer £12 and it's great. I find a lot of sunscreen and moisturisers can make me sweat immediately so then struggle to makeup over. This goes on really nicely, no sweating and worked well under make up.

I need to start using regularly as I've got terrible sun damage discolouration on my face and I'm trying various products to try and improve it but they all make you more sensitive to the sun.

NetofLemons · 12/05/2020 23:29

I haven’t yet found a facial sunscreen that doesn’t burn my eyes so this is all very helpful to know!

Elmo311 · 12/05/2020 23:40

Loving this thread! I need a facial sun cream that doesn't burn my eyes too, Really ruins my mood.
