Ladies with large breasts. Do bras exist that provide amazing support but don’t look awful?

Readysetcake · 08/05/2020 14:31

I’m finding myself wearing my sports bras more as I like the support. My ordinary bras need replacing so I know that is part of the problem. So, as I’m in the market to replace my bras I’d like to find one that minimises jiggling but doesn’t look like a sport bra or matronly.

Any ideas?

Prima Donna.

Never got the Bravissimo love. They’re usually just bog standard frumpy over the shoulder boulder holders, just they come in more colours than white, nude and black. Own brand stuff falls to bits really quickly too.

And all the enforced fake chumminess “I’m a Bravissimo girl” is vomit inducing too.

DCITennison · 09/05/2020 00:03

Yes, Prima Donna. Nothing else has ever come close to the support and shape. Particularly the Madison and Deauville, both fantastic.

Also don’t get the Bravissimo love, they’re bog standard and just don’t do anything for me, I find the fit and shape similar to M&S which isn’t a good thing. If I was to go for something in that sort of price range I’d sooner go to Debenhams. It’s all individual though, I think I’m an odd shape.

I’d love to have naturally good boobs that don’t require major structural support, I’d have endless options and be save so much money...as it is I’ll keep going with Prima Donna.

Fantasise and Freya are both gorgeous.

GlamGiraffe · 09/05/2020 00:08

@CatherineTheNotSoGreat I was 28ff now 28dd (thank god) I find boux avenue the best bra fit in a 28 I've come across that dont make me look like an enormously booby matronly granny! I always ho gir wires though.
Was going to order in the sale(now) but dont get 5 mins due to a small toddler!!

CatherineTheNotSoGreat · 09/05/2020 16:28

Thank you @GlamGiraffe! I’ll have a look there now. 28s aren’t easy to find. I find Bravissimo sizing excellent. Would like something nicer than my good ole Freya Idol but I have tried and nothing fits as well on me. I’ll have a look at the recommended Prima Donna too.

Agree Brastop is great.
Flirtelle is a good brand.
This is good - you might get away with a 34DD.

This is really pretty and much more supportive than it looks.

Not uk based, and sizing needs tweaked from my experience (happy to help) but ewa michalak are fabulous and go up to very large sizes. Amazing uplift and defo not frumpy

ScottishBadger · 10/05/2020 03:06

Second measuring using the Boob or Bust method - it swapped my size from a 40 GG to a 36 K. Suddenly my bras are actally supportive and look good no matter which style

Brashopper · 10/05/2020 03:21

I’m another person who doesn’t like Bravissimo. I get one free bra a year from there, and never have got on with anything they have fitted me in.

Fantasie or Elodie for me. I know the style and size that suits me now so I either buy online or go to John Lewis. In the last couple of years I have taken to wearing M&S bras, too, especially at home. I have learned how to do the fitting for those myself.

ludicrouslemons · 10/05/2020 07:11

Matronly is your friend. Think about how bras look under clothes, full cup give a smoother shape.

Balconette/low cut types look nice in the pics but you'll be jiggling and lumpy in two minutes. I'd always go for an actual bra company like fantasie, Freya etc rather than supermarkets or dept stores.

Bras are the most complex garments to make, you need someone who knows what they're doing and it's worth spending a bit.

Large cup size maternity bras are the boss fight of this horrible situation!

Branleuse · 10/05/2020 09:29

34e is not a difficult size, but i always avoid m&s as their sizing is odd and ive never had one where the underwires didnt feel like scaffolding.

EasyPleasey · 10/05/2020 09:40

I always buy Fantasie. I get fitted in a department store, if you know your size then Figleaves do great online delivery.

TrickyD · 10/05/2020 10:29

Fantasie fan here,

However my FB page is inundated with adverts for a new type of bra; it involves wide straps being pulled from behind going u dear the bust and attached at the front.

There seems to be a variety of sites selling them, minor differences but the same principle.

Has any large bosomed MNer actually tried one? Are they any good?

TrickyD · 10/05/2020 10:30

U dear means under.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 10/05/2020 10:37

I like the Ample Bosom website, the owner is very helpful. I have been pretty much wearing the same model of bra for over a decade now (Emprinte Lily-Rose) because it's comfortable and a good shape. Although I wear Uniqlo Beauty Light in the summer if I'm wearing light t-shirts as the cups are moulded so look smoother under clingy fabric. The shape isn't quite as good as the Lily-Rose though.

lindyloo57 · 10/05/2020 10:47

Am I the only one who boob or bust don't work on me, I wear 34 D or DD measure 30/31 on band, and 38 full part, no way can I wear a 32, I have a couple in that size 32 dd but the band cuts in to much, the cups fit ok, I have tried 34E but cause I like a cleavage they are too big in the cup.

dementedpixie · 10/05/2020 10:53

A 32DD would be too small in the cup and that why it would feel tight. Those measurements give a 30F/FF. Sister sizes of 34DD would be 32E and 30F (same cup volume on smaller bands).

Aliensrus · 10/05/2020 11:00

I find Freya works for me. I used to use M&S but I started getting upper back pain and i think the m and s bras weren’t supportive enough.
See if you can find an independent bra shop that specialises in larger busts - I have one near me in south east London and it’s amazing.

MagnificentMillie · 10/05/2020 11:11

Rigby and Pellor are amazing and where I went after not getting on with bravissimo. The bras are not cheap but give fantastic support and are pretty too.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 10/05/2020 14:31

I don't rate Bravissimo. I think they are a bit thin and some are naff material, for the price of them. I like Curvy Kate ones or Debenhams own. It's a struggle to find decent non-lacy smooth cup bras in small back sizes but large cup. I'll go on a website and it'll say D-K and 28/30 backs but they rarely seem to go together.

copycopypaste · 10/05/2020 14:44

I've tried bravissimo but couldn't get on with them

I use triumph, the Amourette I've found is lovely and supportive , I've got it in lots of different colours
