Hair dye novice question for home dye-ers please

Hi there,
I appear to have gone grey since e lockdown Hmm but only in one single streak on one side HmmHmm

I was considering doing a semi-permanent dye just on that section, to see if I can make it look natural enough before I go back to work, and my question is does she come ready mixed so I could just use a bit, or do you have to mix it before use so I wouldn't be able to save the rest of the bottle for later?

Can anyone recommend an easy, good dye for this, especially if you know one that is ready mixed and ready to go.

Sorry if this is a weird question, I have vague memories from my teenage years of having two bottles that need to be combined... thanks for any tips!

These look interesting.

Thanks Incognito. Maybe a wash out would be best for my first. What counts as a fashion line as opposed to a ???? One

Definitely go with pink or lilac, blue or purple.

incognitomum · 04/05/2020 23:53

Usually the brighter colours.

I used to have a mallen streak at the front. I used to just follow the instructions for the "test patch" on the box dye and apply just to the grey. Worked just fine. Meant a box of hair dye lasted me about 2 years Grin

@GoodMorningEveryone ooh, it has a name?

Thanks for your comment, I think I'm going to go down this route for now. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had this plan.

@incognitomum I love your enthusiasm! I think I'll do it brown for a bit, and then think bolder once it's a clear grey streak all the way down to the end. You know, for parties etc Grin

@GoodMorningEveryone
When you say "used to have", can I ask what happened next? As in, how did it grow out and how long after the streak first turned up? Thanks!

@DaffyDaffy I'm afraid it didn't disappear as such......just the rest caught up and I embraced the grey Grin

The mallen streak appeared mid-20s for me (some people have them from birth) just a 1/2 cm solid streak of grey above my left temple. This is what I "patch-test" dyed for years. Not much more grey for about 15 years.

Mid-40s a lot of other grey caught up. I had dyed all my hair by then - big mistake - (I got bored once and decided on an all over colour - big mistake) and then stuck on the dye-treadmill as the root upkeep with teeny smatterings of grey showing through was a total ball-ache. Eventually I thought fuck it, cut it all into a pixie and grew out the grey. Still have white-r streak top left, rest is a very pretty silver and brown mix.
