Or what you have on your wish list!

In the past few years I’ve tried to only buy things I love and will last and get worn a lot. I try and think about items before I buy - if I still want something a few weeks after I’ve thought of it, it’s often a good shout. It’s surprising how many things I ‘go off’ after a few weeks.

So I have a wish list that I’m always adding to (and removing items from when I realise they won’t get worn....) but please inspire me and help me daydream with your favourite items and why you love them (or want them!) If you can, how much they cost, how much you wear them etc. Not limited to super expensive items at all though!

I’ll start - a big spend was my Mackintosh coat, it’s a classic beige, belted design so goes with blacks, blues, browns. I often wear it to work but also easy to wear casually. It’s really well made and completely waterproof so looks good, smart but also quite practical.

Another good splurge of mine has been good day-to-day underwear. Not crazy expensive, the Organic Basics set I have is so comfortable but also sits really well and doesn’t leave any lines under clothes.

A couple of years ago i bought some Penelope Chilvers boots and they have been amazing. They’ll last forever and look good.

saucyspice · 04/05/2020 23:39

Definitely agree with Rayban sunglasses.

Also, sweaty Betty leggings are my favourite purchase for running! I got the zero gravity ones and they are amazing - I swear I run faster!!

Swiftier · 05/05/2020 08:09

@Italianmeringuebuttercream no! That’s devastating about the coat, moths are awful aren’t they, so destructive and hard to get rid of too.

@Ruthietuthie another Max Mara coat! Seems like it’s the coat to invest in. I like the idea of investing in good shoes too and buying them in different colours!

@DreamingofSunshine it’s great to be able to use money inherited on something you love, and can use for years to come.

@PersonaNonGarter investment boots are a great idea. In the UK you can wear them for most of the year with our awful weather too!

@saucyspice haha yes I love those leggings and wear them running too!

I also love my raybans and sweatty Betty leggings. Like a PP I but SB in the sale or there's normally a 20% code going- Bowel Babe had one on her insta last week.

I got my Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses on easyJet as they had an additional 20% off on the duty free price. Worth a look if we can ever fly again!

Swiftier · 05/05/2020 08:50

Good tip about EasyJet @DreamingOfSunshine - bet that makes quite a big difference to price!

OP posts:
Swiftier · 05/05/2020 08:50

With the duty free too I mean Smile

DreamingofSunshine · 05/05/2020 08:57

It did, and they've been worth every penny.

StCharlotte · 05/05/2020 09:22

These ones. Can't decide between the slightly unusual "Shiny Espresso" or usual tortoiseshell colour...

www.smartbuyglasses.co.uk/designer-sunglasses/Serengeti/Serengeti-Mara-8988-505193.html

Or the sensible option which is neither Grin

I liked them because they seemed to be less oversized.

As you say Queen (hello!), I've been lusting after them for nearly a year, so...

StCharlotte · 05/05/2020 09:27

And yes I got my Ray Bans and Ted Baker sunnies on Easyjet. Sadly not an option this year!

bookish83 · 05/05/2020 09:32

Ray Bans- have had two pairs in over 10 years. Both still going strong!

A few 'nice' bags and good quality shoes. Same with make up. I know which foundation I like and I stick to it.

Less high street purchases i.e. fast fashion. As yet I haven't replaced with classic items but this is the plan.

I dread to think how much money I wasted in my 20s on clothes and make up Blush

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/05/2020 09:51

Those are lovely @StCharlotte. I've never owned Ray Bans (mainly because of the rate at which I lose sunglasses) but I had a look at their site and I'm tempted by the Jackie Ohhs. There's a site-wide discount going on at the moment, plus you get a discount if you sign up. I like being able to try them on virtually. The larger Jackie Ohhs are fab too, if you can get away with them. They. make me look like The Fly!

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/05/2020 09:53

I've taken advantage of the Easyjet discount in the past too - last year I got an Urban Decay palette that was 20% off the duty-free price.

AuntieMarys · 05/05/2020 09:56

Prescription Ray Ban sunglasses. I have 3 pairs and wear them most days as my eyes water in sunlight.

Riding boots from Duo...bought 9 years ago and still look fantastic

RockThrills · 05/05/2020 10:00

In the last 6 months I've been buying more 'classic, well made designer' items than cheap and plentiful. So far I've brought 3 Kurt Geiger bags. Work winter, work summer and an evening bag. Same with shoes, I've now gone for real leather shoes at a higher price than cheap and don't last long at all since I walk everywhere! Also after 5 years of being pregnant or breastfeeding I've started buying good quality bras & clothes that aren't just functional!

StCharlotte · 05/05/2020 10:09

These are the Ray Bans I have.

As for the Serengetis I think I'll go with the tortoiseshell (as per the picture). I might see if I can hold out until payday as if

hammeringinmyhead · 05/05/2020 10:36

They're gone as a conpany now, but my Balla ankle boots from Duo (tan brogue lace ups) have just done their third winter. £170.

My best ever are both outerwear - All Saints cargo jacket for £100 on eBay and my pride and joy Burberry Daylesmoore trench coat.

I do love my Mulberry Bayswater but if I'm honest I don't know when it will ever come out of the dustbag again as I have a toddler and mostly carry either a baby bag with small leather backpack or a Longchamp Le Pliage which I can wash!! The piping also went, I had it repaired and it's going again which is really bloody annoying for £650.

doodleygirl · 05/05/2020 10:44

Can you get Raybans with prescription lenses?

AuntieMarys · 05/05/2020 10:47

doodley yes...all mine are varifocals

AuntieMarys · 05/05/2020 10:48

hammering Duo still there...they became Ted and Muffy for a mad moment but reverted to Duo.

Swiftier · 05/05/2020 11:32

@StCharlotte love those sunglasses! I really like the Jackie Ohhs @QueenOfTheAndals although not sure I could personally get away with them! @RockThrills investment bags are a great idea and having a small number of ones you love.
@hammeringinmyhead a Burberry trench coat sounds like a perfect investment piece.

Warwick style knock off bass guitar. Used. I've waited 20 years to start to learn the bass. Last october in a small Camden market shop this green, slightly shabby guitar just begged me to take it home. 170 pounds on something I might never even pick up - or I thought at that point. Upside: I'm actually getting decent :), so it' was well worth it.
My husband's similar splurge was a Fender guitar and amp 3 years ago. Our teen son is now getting to be quite a good guitarist :)
still on my waiting list: msc in psychology.

HappyGirlNow · 05/05/2020 11:46

My Omega de Ville Prestige.. absolutely love it 💕

Tell me what your best splurge has been...
Swiftier · 05/05/2020 12:44

@NC29 sounds like a fun and worthwhile splurge! Grin I miss Camden!

@HappyGirlNow love that watch!

My £350 Chanel sunglasses. Black, oversized, classic. They make me happy.

hammeringinmyhead · 05/05/2020 13:41

hammering Duo still there...they became Ted and Muffy for a mad moment but reverted to Duo.

Nope. They closed down in March.
