Olaplex. Worth the money?

Hoolajerry · 04/05/2020 10:33

I am thinking of getting some. I have number 3,4 and 5 in my basket. It's £65 so a lot of money. I am going for the right starter combo and is it worth the money? I also have a very sensitive scalp so a lot to splash out.

Using it once and thinking your hair feels great is a bit of a placebo effect. Thats not to say it isn't working - you just wouldn't physically feel the benefit. No 3 is a much diluted version of No1. Its not a conditioner, and works on the hairs internal structure.

Olaplex 4 and 5 are the shampoo and conditioners,

BlackAndWhiteCat01 · 16/05/2020 16:41

Is it worth it? I would say so - just dont be disheartened if you don't feel the immediate effects some say!

lokoho · 17/05/2020 07:23

@CrystalEssenceHall I put it up in a microfibre hair wrap with the button on the front (forehead) instead of the back so it doesn't dig in when I lie down. You can buy them on amazon, about £10 for a multipack.

lokoho · 17/05/2020 07:51

@empireants Agreed: Innoluxe also very good - perhaps more show stopping as it gives the shine too.

caribooshriek · 17/05/2020 07:54

I have a bottle of #3. It's a godsend for fragile hair!

Tinkletwat · 18/05/2020 11:59

Would this be a substitute for Philip Kingsley Elasticizer? Has anyone tried both and can comment about comparing them?

Lydia777 · 19/05/2020 17:01

@Tinkletwat I have both and love both but Olapelex is better. If I use the Elasticiser, its only effective for me if left on all night and then my hair feels lovely and springy. With the Olaplex, 10-15 mins before my shower on dry hair before shampoo works wonders for softness and fullness. I have huge 1000ml bottles of both and they last forever. I used to use Olaplex No3 but bought a massive bottle of No2 on Overstock (Its the salon one so more concentrated than No3) Don't tell my hairdresser!

Tinkletwat · 19/05/2020 17:04

Thanks @Lydia777, really useful info. So fed up of buying things to find their no good. Will give Olaplex a whirl when my Elasticizer finishes.

I use 3 & 5.

Heavily bleached/ processed hair. Wouldn’t do this to my hair if there wasn’t any olaplex.

I also swear by redken extreme antisnap treatment too.

bumhead · 24/05/2020 16:51

@lokoho where did you buy Innoluxe from please and which one?

empireants · 26/05/2020 14:15

@bumhead I bought an Innoluxe 1st Taste Trial Pack on Amazon ages ago for about £75. It includes all three steps and is incredible!

Theaspidistraiswilting · 03/08/2020 22:43

I have horrible hair. It is very fine and I have dyed it for years. It was the texture of straw. I have tried everything, nothing made a difference until I bought a one off treatment of Olaplex one and two on eBay. I have bought the salon started kit and treat my hair with it every two weeks. It has been 2 months and my hair is still very fine but it is slippery soft for the first time in I can’t remember how long. I think it is worth it!

I think it’s probably more suited to those with bleached hair, my is dyed and I noticed no difference. Had steps 1 & 2 done in a salon hair felt very soft but after I washed it myself noticed no difference. also splashed out on steps 34567 to use at home, left step 3 on for a couple of hours and used the shampoo and conditioner, made my hair very soft and you need the tiniest amount, I found it did make my hair get greasy quickly and I broke out on my scalp and neck. Not even used the styling steps 6 & 7 yet. I am having bleach done next week so I may get better results.

beautifulmonument · 04/08/2020 09:45

It's absolutely worth every penny! Truly magical stuff. I can go twice as long between hair cuts now because no split ends. I find I only need a teeny smidge of the shampoo (my hair is fine) (and people say that about expensive shampoo all the time and it's usually lies but not with Olaplex!)

AGeeseGoose · 22/11/2020 10:40

Just spotted this thread, it’s been interesting to read - I’ve bought a little set with 3, 4, 5 and 6 in which I’ve just used for the first time on my very bleached hair. it. Interesting to see that 3 seems to be the most recommended!

iwanttolookbetter · 22/11/2020 11:26

Yeah, you can get a cheaper trial pack on their website or various other places (lookfantastic etc. I think). £25 for 4 of the treatments versions I think.
