Pixie cut and lockdown

GeraltOfRivia · 02/05/2020 21:30

I am effectively being forced to grow out my short hair while in lockdown. I'd been toying with the idea of ending back at a bob, so not the end of the world, but with no trim to maintain tidiness I look like Edward scissor hands has been at the hair of one the the 60s period Beatles.

Anyone else in the same boat? I'm trying to style it out with hair clips and hats. What's your trick?

Yes I'm the same. Seriously debating just taking the clippers to it and letting my hairdresser sort it out in a few weeks.
Also been trying to get my dd to look for cute headbands.
I cant stand having all this hair. I feel like cousin IT Grin

onlymyselftoanswerto1 · 02/05/2020 21:35

Same here, it's driving me crazy! Especially around the back where it's normally shaved

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 02/05/2020 21:37

Cutting my own. It's not that hard, just the back you might need to enlist a friend to help wth. Do it gradually and you'll be fine.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 02/05/2020 21:39

Another one here! I usually have my hair cut every 4 weeks - I've missed 2 sessions now and am heading towards missing the third haircut in a row...

Mine is shaved up the back, (or was) and I'd asked DH to have a bash but he's chickened out. It's driving me mad and the top looks like Worzel Gummidge!

GeraltOfRivia · 02/05/2020 21:42

So glad there's loads of us. I'm going to continue brazening it out. Wondering if the 'kerchief round the head look may be a good style.

It's long enough it's annoying me now. Tickling my head and neck where it shouldn't. And the "sideburns". Gah

NotMeNoNo · 02/05/2020 21:45

I'm lucky i got a trim in mid March so its just starting to get long. I'm going to have to dig out my straighteners to keep it under control. What it will be like after months, I dread.

AwkwardSquad · 02/05/2020 21:46

I’ve tried the kerchief tactic - ok-ish and seems to go over well on Zoom calls but still looks somewhat dishevelled. I really really need a haircut!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/05/2020 21:47

Ooh now I am so glad I perservered with growing my hair ( and I had to go through Real Life not Lockdown Wink )

I used a plastic flexible headband to push the fringe back as tied a tiny ponytail as soon as I could .
Then progressed to some large flat clips (same colour as my hair )

I looked like Justin Bieber in his "Baby" video (not a look to aspire to)

If you've got clippers , just go for it !

Ted27 · 02/05/2020 21:53

I am starting to resemble Cousin It, I can just about cope with it getting longer, but I usually have it thinnec out so its getting quite thick, heavy and unmanagable.
I'm working at home so keep the camera off but I'll be getting creative with a scarf soon

GeraltOfRivia · 02/05/2020 21:54

Oo. Maybe I should switch to full Bieber. At least it's a more modern look.

Plastic hair bands abound as I have an 8 year old daughter who likes an accessory. Will flowers and unicorns look good on the office zoom??

I came on here to ask the same question. I missed my last colour too so my foils are now weird stripes. I bought an auburn hair dye on impulse but havent used it yet and wonder if it will make it look even more dodgy.

Last work Zoom meeting (thankfully we dont have many) I put a lot of DSs wax on it to try and make it look deliberately messy, not sure if I pulled it off or it looked like I had just got out of bed.

My hairline in the nape of my neck seems to be growing very fast too so I could be heading for a mullet. On the upside this might be a good time to try growing it out.

In summary maybe the hair dye cant really make things much worse.

GeraltOfRivia · 02/05/2020 22:11

Go for the dye. If nothing else it's something to do one afternoon 😂

GeraltOfRivia and if nothing else it will be fun to see the reaction of my two grown up sons and DH, especially if I sneak off into the bathroom and dont tell them what I am up to.

achillesratty · 02/05/2020 22:29

Another ex ultra short pixie here. My hair is driving me insane, I have really fine, floppy hair but as it's grown it's magically started to stick out at 90 degree angles from my head and refuses to be tamed. I am wearing headbands too but at the back where it's usually shaved it's curling out on either side like a handlebar moustache on the back of my head Shock I am not growing it, I love my hair short.

HelloChompy · 02/05/2020 22:32

I normally have mine cut every 4 weeks, luckily I had it trimmed just before lockdown. After some hesitation from him I persuaded my husband to clipper the back. He also trimmed a bit for me. It was a bit tricky as it's all different lengths, I worked on the assumption that it must have all grown the same amount so he just snipped off a couple of cms all over. We have some thinning scissors so had a go with those too! It's not the neatest but it does look a bit better.

notstockpilingyet · 03/05/2020 08:13

I have a slightly long pixie, and a slightly cavalier attitude to my hair.
Barely seeing anyone + fast growing hair = courage.
Got the clips out, wetted it down, snipped in sections, after years of watching my lovely hairdresser doing it.
The back - did require another human being.
I knew it had worked when a friend narrowed her eyes and asked if I'd been secretly seeing my hairdresser during lockdown.
Emboldened, I'm going to keep doing this.

womanthatfelltoearth · 03/05/2020 08:22

I have/had a long pixie, could cope with all of it other than the back which was starting to look like a mullet! DH has trimmed a couple of times, cutting in to avoid a blunt end (thank you YouTube) - really happy with it!

SoLongFurlough · 03/05/2020 08:38

Another one waiting for a hairband delivery here *waves

SplatPancake · 03/05/2020 09:15

I too have really thick, double crown, super coarse, incredibly fast growing pixie, and owing to crazy family circumstances pre-lockdown missed my usual slot (and a couple of rescheduled appointments too)

I look like, well you can imagine what I look like...

I’ve also kind of disastrously dyed it purple. Seemed like a good idea at the time. But not do much.

Am wearing hygge bands I bought for an unsuccessful C25K experiment (can never get past Week 3 🤷‍♀️)....

... but I can’t wait to get it cut properly again! I might get it dyed a crazy colour — properly — too

Baaaahhhhh · 03/05/2020 09:28

Cut the mullet off DD's pixie cut yesterday. Looks so much better. She did her fringe. Joint effort. She is now growing it out into a kind of Bob and will go back to chin length.

I trimmed my fringe with nail scissors, looks pretty decent Grin

notstockpilingyet · 03/05/2020 11:40

Honestly, respect to the hairband crew. Hairband may look quite cute. But you just have to go for it. Courage, mes braves.

MoreSchnitzelPlease · 03/05/2020 14:14

My last haircut was a few weeks before quarantine began, it is getting untidy now. I hate it when the hair gets long by my ears, I like it all very neat and short. I am used to getting my husband to trim a bit off the back if my hairdresser doesn't cut it as short as I like, so I think it's time for my DH to get out the clippers and tidy it up for me!

I need to keep my hair short as I'm not able to maintain longer hair as I have some chronic health conditions. I can't manage the upkeep as even washing my hair is a huge task day to day.

GeraltOfRivia · 03/05/2020 14:40

I can't find any of my daughter's hair bands. She had a souillions not long ago!

OP posts:
kepisback · 03/05/2020 15:54

Mine has just gone mega curly, and actually not hating it. This I think is 12 weeks since last cut as had to miss scheduled appointment prior to lockdown as had pneumonia. One more week and I may need clippers though.....
