Louboutin shoes

DH bought me a stunning pair of louboutin shoes for my 30th a few years ago... he keeps moaning I never wear them but they cripple my feet! I'm trying to wear them in during lockdown but omg they are so painful! Any tips?

They are my correct size and I'm used to wearing heels!

Terri I think you missed the bit where the OP says she loves high heels and has loads of them, it’s just this particular pair, which she lusted after in theory, which have turned out unwearable. I’m guessing that when she unwrapped this very expensive and thoughtful present from her DH she was absolutely delighted: it’s neither party’s fault that they don’t work for her feet.

If she lived in trainers, and had never previously expressed a wish for these shoes then you’d have a point.

Ginfordinner · 02/05/2020 18:32

I'm also struggling with the idea that someone has shoes bought for them by their husband/partner. It is too similar to the buying of sexy underwear scenario.

I am probably being naive here, but I really don't "get" the fetishisation of shoes.

Glittertwins · 02/05/2020 18:38

Slightly off topic but thank you to the PP who mentioned the rubber sole replacement. I bought Prada sandals instead which had them already for the same price and I have lived in them.

Pinkyyy · 02/05/2020 20:29

@18whichteaareyou you can't wear them and send them back because they were uncomfortable.

ThinkPink71 · 02/05/2020 21:21

@Mammyloveswine...they are stunning. Ive ended up looking for some now

Mammyloveswine · 02/05/2020 21:30

Too many people to reply to individually but I have wanted louboutins for years so DH was being very thoughtful when he bought them for me! No control or anything! I love heels and little dresses when I go out (I'm in Newcastle so I'm not alone!).

I can confirm they work well in the bedroom and DH was very excited to me wearing only them when he came in from a long shift at work the other night! Blush Grin

Somebody said it was akin to a husband buying his wife underwear..I love nice lingerie so would he delighted with that too! Everyone is different and every relationship is different!

Thank you everyone who has commented!

@ThinkPink71 I love them.. but see if you can try some on (after lockdown!)

I am not a fan of Louboutins, not least because of the designers attitude to style over comfort. I also think they’re a little declasse. But that is just my opinion, and so long as you love yours, great.

In terms of comfort, I have learnt that whenever buying a designer high heels that has a heel higher than 75mm to go up by half a size, or even a whole size. This makes a huge difference to how comfortable the shoe it.

Also, Louboutins tend to run small anyway, so if he bought your true size, no wonder you’re struggling. While you can soften the shoe using steam from a kettle and your hands to manipulate the leather, if it is too short in the length, it will never fit comfortably.

Good luck OP!

StellaRockafella · 02/05/2020 21:52

PS. OP, if you love heels, I can recommend Aquazzura, particularly Forever Marilyn 105 heels. They are a dream to wear, so so comfortable, and I am always complemented on them by men and women!

Gemma2019 · 02/05/2020 22:43

It's a shame he didn't just give you the money and let you try on some and buy a pair you can wear. Those are a lovely colour but too high and narrow and that's all I can think of when I look at them. Maybe you could sell them and buy different ones with the money.

TKAAHUARTG · 03/05/2020 00:18

Oh I’m not saying they don’t work as a gift if that’s what you like. I am wondering what kind of person moans about his wife not wearing them. Does he not like you to have autonomy in other areas of your life too?

user1493242132 · 03/05/2020 00:26

To be honest I wore mine a lot before I got pregnant and now I live in my trainers. So going from these to trainers I now understand how I was killing my feet

mrwalkensir · 03/05/2020 00:39

buying running shoes a year or so back, one manufacturer mentioned that women's feet compared to men's tend to be narrower at the ankle than across the toes. So might explain why only the narrow of foot on here are comfy in Laboutins. Manolos maybe more sensitive to the feminine form

WellDoneBridge · 03/05/2020 00:40

I have to go up a size!

LellyMcKelly · 03/05/2020 06:09

I can’t believe that’s we let these designers take us for absolute mugs - paying hundreds and hundreds of pounds for shoes that are too uncomfortable to walk in, just for the sake of ‘looking nice’. Letting them get away with caring so little about the wearer that they are fine with making shoes that actively make them hobble. It’s actually insulting. Louboutin is just trolling you. He must be laughing his head off.

Floisme · 03/05/2020 08:10

I don't think my opinion of heels or whether they are considered on trend is relevant here (but thank you, London).
The point is that the op loves them and says she had wanted some Louboutins for ages.
For what it's worth - and she's not asked for relationship advice either - it sounds to me like a thoughtful but imperfectly executed gift. I think buying clothes for your partner is a rare skill - I never get it right.

zerocraic · 03/05/2020 08:22

I think heels like this do look extremely dated now tbh.

sotiredwe · 03/05/2020 09:05

I think it depends who wears them.

AgnesNaismith · 03/05/2020 09:09

They are sooo painful - I sold all of mine on eBay and bought some Jimmy Choos, Charlotte Olympia heels and lots of LK Bennett boots (latter from Bicester). Much more comfy!

Buzzfrightyears · 03/05/2020 09:19

I think they’re beautiful! I have a pair and they do indeed cripple your feet. And I’m a seasoned high heel wearer! They look fab though! Jimmy Choo are comfortable, I had a pair for my wedding and I didn’t suffer at all.

BubblesBuddy · 03/05/2020 09:52

My DD went to school with the daughter of a very well known model. On speech day even she was noticeably struggling on her very high Jimmy Choos. None of these shoes are designed for prolonged use. Just a short walk across the pavement to a restaurant.

My DD2 is very slim - size 4-6. She has narrow feet. She can wear heels and does. DD1 is a size 10 and has learnt very high heels are impossible for all day use. Like lots of Londoners she wears trainers for travel and heels when she needs to (barrister at Court). I have always suggested she didn’t buy Louboutins. She has wider feet than DD2 so I think she really couldn’t wear them! I do think sizing up is usually required for a bit more comfort.

For a treat, when we can travel again, the original Louboutin shop in the Palais Royal Arcade is a gem.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/05/2020 11:31

So might explain why only the narrow of foot on here are comfy in Laboutins

Narrow feet tend to be hypermobile (as well as bony with minimal natural padding under the ball of the foot) so a shoe that pitches your foot forward into that very narrow toe box .......

My own feet are very narrow (less than a AAA when I was a child , probably now a C ) and they are wincing just looking at those shoes .

Interesting Bubbles about shoes worn in Court . My own DD is going to study law , we were looking at the Dress Code , I know it is strict (I used to work for a Lawyer)
Dark suits , very strict on skirt length and type ....and "No cheap jewellery". I bought her some tiny , very £ gold earrings set with tiny CZ (she's 17 and might lose them so so diamonds for her Grin ) which we call her Court Room Earrings .

The shoes .................. she doesn't want to be a Barrister so - hopefully- she'll get round that one .

ThanksForAllTheFish · 03/05/2020 11:39

I always thought they were designed as bedroom shoes. That’s why they are so hard to walk in and have the red sole that rubs off when you walk outside. I’m sure I read an article about it years ago.

cheeseycracker · 03/05/2020 11:50

@IDefinitelyHaveFriends

Try Valentinos as they are a little wider.
If you really want to splash, Tom Ford shoes are so comfortable and so sexy (IMO). They are my go-to-shoe Smile

BubblesBuddy · 03/05/2020 13:32

To be clear, DD1 wasn’t going to wear Louboutins to court! She had eyed them up as being beautiful! I just didn’t think they would fit.

Yes, barristers are normally expected to be “court ready” in dress. Black suit, white top and conservative! It’s just that if you travel to court, as many barristers and lawyers do, it’s comfort all the way. Big trundle case is necessary to hold papers and heels (for an air of confidence!)
