Jacket for a tall woman - urgent for birthday present

I'm nearly 5,10" and I'm not particularly slim - quite broad shoulders, I wear a 36-38" bra, usually wear a size 14-16 depending on the make.

It's my birthday in around 10 days and obviously I can't go out and buy anything so I'm looking for things online and I've always wanted a good jacket - smart casual, everyday. I don't do florals, patterns, metal buttons. I want the cut to be for a tall woman, nothing cropped.

I've looked at Long, Tall Sally but not seen anything great. There is a blazer I like in Gap but they don't have my size.

Any thoughts at all?

Oh yes and I'm going to be 54 so nothing too much aimed at a young market specifically.

Look at the tall ranges in Topshop, New Look, Boohoo and Next.
I'm a similar size to you although not quite as tall but I have long arms. I like Next Tall coats and jackets, although I size up as I find them quite snug.
Dorothy Perkins also do tall but I don't find them particularly long fitting.

I've tried those already. But thank you.

america today
dutch brand, so suitable for tall women

I'm not sure if you mean a trench coat type coat, heavy winter coat, short jacket or a waterproof rain type coat, but regatta have longer line jackets. I'm only 5'6 and always find the arms are too short on most jackets. Maybe I have long, orangutan arms???

TheLittleDogLaughed · 01/05/2020 15:37

Elouera the arms are ALWAYS too short for me. Very annoying. I'm looking for a jacket that I can wear in the summer. With a dress or with jeans, for work (if that ever happens again). Not a raincoat or heavy coat etc.

The don't have a size guide though. My husband is half Dutch so he would be very happy to buy me this!

Ugh - they don't deliver to the UK.

Any other suggestions before I surrender?

You could take a look at lands End - they have a tall range and do occasional classic blazers - smallest size is a medium or a US 10 tho which is too big on me, so I don’t have any personal recommendation

Like PP I’ve had success with brands from countries where people tend to be tall (I’m 5 10 too). Am noting down the Dutch one as a great idea - I’ve previously bought German, American or Scandinavian brands- Gesult, Tommy Hilfiger and Day Birger have worked out for me.

TheLittleDogLaughed · 01/05/2020 16:37

Honeywort unfortunately the Dutch one doesn't ship to the UK, which is a shame.

I wish I was a size 10! Looking at most of the size guides I'm probably a 16 ...
