Most useful/hardest working item of clothing?

I’m trying to create a capsule wardrobe but so many if my clothes don’t “go” together. I’m drawn to colour and pattern which is harder to get right. I couldn’t do a wardrobe of just neutral plans, as much as I admire them on others!

My hardest working items are a Toast navy and cream wool/kimono jacket that seems to go with a lot. Also my olive utility jacket. Oh and jeans. I shouldn’t forget my plain linen v neck t shirts in deep pink, navy and khaki. Probably proving my point that plain clothes seem to work harder!

I’d love to hear what others have found “pulls together” their wardrobe. Smile

I love a navy trench for the definition it gives. I wear it for work over a smart dress, then at the weekend over jeans, trainers and anything other than a thick jumper.

I too like print and colour. I tend to mainly buy prints on t shirts, dresses and shirts. My neutrals are grey, denim, navy and white, so I basically have lots of neutrals bottoms that I pair with print tops and plainer jackets. Works for me but we're all different.

I do love trench coats - that sounds gorgeous. Funnily though as I’ve got older my dress style has become less classic. I used to have a beautiful navy LK Bennett trench coat that I ebayed in the end.

Could you also think about more interesting accessories? So keep your plainer separates that you like, but invest in a couple of handbags, earrings, belts etc in colours and prints that you love?

theredphonerang · 30/04/2020 19:52

A few good neutral statement necklaces

BeNiceToYourSister · 30/04/2020 20:55

My denim jacket and my leather jacket: both make me feel a little more rock chick and a little less knackered old crone Grin

It used to be a French Navy ruched knee-length skirt.

Now it is a 100% wool knit navy knee-length skirt.

Goes with so many things, is super comfortable and always smart.

@msgloria yes maybe I need to do that. I have loads of scarves! Part of my issue is I get dressed in a hurry as I love my bed. GrinI spend loads on clothes and have so much stuff but never feel pulled together.

I have this bag which is gorgeous but I’ve not used it yet! Shock www.penelopechilvers.com/castanet-grande-bag-navy.html

@theredphonerang I maybe need to do that. I’ve got lots of necklaces but mainly silver ones.

@BeNiceToYourSister I have both of those but I’ve barely worn my All Saints biker as I’m not rock chick enough 🙈

I have a grey cashmere jumper that I seem to wear loads. I also wear my m and s heatgen thermal long sleeve tops pretty much every day between October and May.

@IlonaRN it’s often the things that don’t sound very exciting on paper that are the most useful. I need more of those things - I’m like a magpie, drawn to bright and patterns! Blush

I'm a retired nurse and really struggled with a face mask for an occasional infected patient...so I really feel for any medical professional having to wear one, plus the rest of the protective clothing atm...its really stuffy and isolating for a short while let alone and entire12 hour shift

Lemonlady22 · 30/04/2020 21:12

Ignore me...I thought the post was about work clothes ..oops!

mizu · 30/04/2020 21:21

A TOAST denim dress that I wear, without fail, every winter to work. Long sleeved top underneath, tights and boots.

Helpnotsurewhattodovirus · 01/05/2020 08:19

@mizu I do love Toast!

@WellTidy yes that’s exactly what I mean. The grey jumper that goes with everything. I love those heatgen. I actually got some lacey vests from Damart this year and they’ve been amazing!

@MrsA2017 Grin I am a geek (my job is pure geek) and I feel a bit of a BiscuitBiscuit in a biker jacket.
