My roots are orange...

I've dyed my own hair (maybe stupidly) as I can't get to the hairdressers and my roots were terrible. I'm naturally mousy brown but my hair is quite blonde.

I like cool tones rather than warm blonde but my roots are quite orange... I've used a toner a couple of times but it's definitely more orangey than I'd like.

Any ideas on how to get it cooler and to match the rest of my hair?

No idea I’m afraid, but you’re not the only one who’s dyed their hair...!

The length of my hair is orange, and the roots are yellow! I’ve started using purple shampoo, but am mainly concentrating on conditioning it whist I figure out what to do next 😬

I’ve just used a purple mask by L’Oreal left on overnight and it has worked wonders to get rid of the orange

Would putting a mid to dark blonde on be an option? In a neutral tone?

Bleach takes your hair through orange, then yellow before it goes blonde. So you need to do the roots again if you want them lighter. A toner might make them blend a bit better with the rest of your hair.

Watch Brad Mondo on YouTube.
Toner can remove some brassy tones, but the hair has to be quite light before this happens, it can't make orange hair ashy blonde, you need to lift the colour to the right level with bleach and then tone to the desired tone. Unfortunately if your roots are orange they will need another round of bleach until yellow - like the inside of a banana - and then tone.
Good luck, I've been there so many times myself haha

L’Oréal excellence in shade 8.1 ash blonde is very good at toning orange. Maybe only needs to stay on 10-15 mins, not the 30 recommended.

Do a strand test on a bit of hair underneath prior to colouring to check it’s the result you want.
