Night cream/routine

Hi all
I realise this is a bit frivolous at such a worrying time but I’m after recommendations for a night cream as I feel the need for a bit of a treat.
I’m early 50s and I look it, skin a bit sensitive so no heavy perfumes etc, skin has always been a bit combination but definitely drier now. I’m just looking for something to hydrate and feel comfortable.
I use Roche posay hydra phase at the moment and I love it for daytime but feel I maybe need something richer for nighttime?
Any suggestions v welcome xx

This is not at all frivolous. Your skin is your largest organ and needs looking after.

Night time I would use an acid (lactic if you are sensitive) and an oil such as Clarins, which are lovely but not fragrance free. And then you can't go wrong with either Weleda Skin Food, which is very rich or Cerave Moisturising cream in the big tub, which will last you forever but also doubles up as a body cream if you so wish. If you like LRP you could also try Cicaplast Baume B5 for a heavier treatment cream. Avene also do some nice thick creams for sensitive skin as well, I think one is called XeraCalm or something similar.

An acid is a toner to exfoliate so a liquid rather than a serum usually. Lactic is known to be the least irritating if you are sensitive but glycolic is easier to come by. Nip and fab do some pads which are available in boots and very popular. Exfoliating every couple of days after cleansing will help your creams, serums and oils to absorb.

Also yes, I do oil before cream or mix a couple of drops into the cream.

Caroline Hirons has an excellent website where basic skincare is explained. It really can make a huge difference to change just a couple of things.

I'm 43, my skin is fairly oily, I cleanse with Simple Cleansing Lotion & Simple Toner.

Then apply Clinique Smart Repair Serum.
Boots No7 protect & perfect eye cream then
Boots No7 protect & perfect night cream.

However sometimes I find it all a bit heavy on my skin as I'm prone to spots so I'll cleanse but have a night off the creams.

I'm 40 & have been using Liz Earle night mask for a few years - the super skin range. I love it. Have been using it in the day since lock down & my skin is glowing (according to my sister, who rarely compliments me on anything!)

Cerave moisturising cream in the tub. It's the best moisturiser on the market in my opinion.

Packaging is fairly no frills - it's isn't going to look pretty on the dresser and perhaps doesn't fulfil the treaty feeling criteria. But for efficacy, you can't do better. It's full of ceramides and really helps to restore and repair the skin barrier.

I use it because I use a lot of active ingredients such as tretinoin and alpha hydroxy acids.

I was always worried about using an oil because I thought it would be greasy and make me spotty. I'm using lockdown to experiment and now my skin is the best it has ever been. Wrinkles less obvious, no spots, genuinely glowing and no one to see it! I'm a total convert to oil at night.

I'm late 40s and have recently splashed out on Estee Lauder.

I used Advanced Night Repair serum (not the standard one but the 'emergency' one) and a night cream (was a sample in the free gift - I only buy 2 products when there's a gift).

My skin is so dry, to the point I could no longer wear any foundation.
The advanced night repair (now on 2nd bottle) is the only thing that's worked. I think because its a serum. Previously used #7 etc but my skin would just eat up moisturisers and remain dry.

I hear nothing but praise for this product whenever I go on these topics.

See my above post, would I need a serum then cream? Moisturisers alone don't stem my skin's extreme dryness.
